The stage is set for the public presentation of Colours of My Mind, a 275-page book by Austin Emaduku, at the Egini Community Townhall in Egini, Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.
The book launch is scheduled for 12 p.m. on Tuesday, 25 August, under the chairmanship of Professor G.G Darah, an eminent academic, one of the pioneers of the scholarship on Oral Literature in Nigeria, and a renowned political and community leader in Delta State.

Published by Premium Times Books, Colours of My Mind is a trenchant and compelling collection of essays, reflections, and creative writings that chronicle Nigeria’s socio-political journey in the second decade of the 21st century.

Colours of My Mind offers readers a rare blend of sharp political analysis and intimate personal reflection. The essays interrogate power, challenge complacency, and speak boldly for the marginalised, while the concluding creative pieces reveal a more personal, lyrical dimension of the author’s mind.
Austin Emaduku, a native of Egini in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State, wrote from the distinctive standpoint of a native, who refuses the comfortable detachment of the distant critic. A PhD holder and fellow of the Nigeria Institute of Human and Natural Resources, he is the Head of Personnel Management in Ughelli South Local Government, who has served as the President-General of the Union of Udu Communities, and a member of the Udu Council of Chiefs. From these, he brings on the unique – and reinforcing – perspectives of a experienced public administrator and a rooted indigene of the Niger Delta.
In Colours of My Mind, Emaduku’s interventions are grounded in the realities of the region’s environmental degradation, youth restiveness, and cultural anxieties, without losing focus of the wider Nigerian condition. His core reflection on the Niger Delta Question offers an insider’s perspective on the “intractable problems” of the region, even as he poignantly critiques the “unthinking agitation” and militancy that, while born of genuine frustration over environmental degradation and negligence, has often turned inward, terrorising the very people it sought to liberate.
He, more so, speaks candidly to concerns around the restructuring of the country, the burdens inflicted by Nigeria’s current quasi-unitary system, the pathway of redemption tied to a notion of ‘true’ federalism, the necessity of democratic accountability, even as he goes hard against the “hypocrisy of religious intolerance,” “cultural inferiorisation” of African traditions, and the impacts of modern Pentecostalism.
With a ‘Foreword’ by the distinguished Professor Darah, who rightly praises Emaduku’s “erudite and punchy” style and his “conviction and strident voice of a public intellectual,” the volume stands as both historical record and moral challenge. It gathers the varied colours of one thoughtful citizen’s mind and arranges them into a coherent spectrum. The result is neither a manifesto nor a memoir, but something more useful: a sustained act of civic witnessing. Austin Emaduku has given us a record of his time and a challenge to ours.

The book presentation, which is one aspect of a dual event including the official opening of the Egini Community Public Library, donated by the author, Austin Emaduku, will witness the presence of distinguished community leaders such as Vincent Oyibode, the Chairman of Udu Local Government, who is also the chief launcher; and Innocent Ogboru, the Chairman of Delta State Library Board in Asaba, who is the principal guest of honour.
