At the Hip Hop World Music Awards, P square and Bez will slug it out for most recognised act.By Christabel Abiodun
The battle line for music supremacy appears to have been drawn as twin pop stars, Psquare and alternative music artiste, Bez Idakulu, top the nominee list for the 2012 Hip Hop World Music Awards (Headies 2012), which was released on Tuesday.
Both singers have been nominated in six categories each. History is also being made as this will be first time that a non-pop or hip hop artiste will be recognized with six nominations.
For one, 28-year-old Bez is being considered for ‘Recording of The Year’, ‘Hip Hop World Revelation of the Year’, ‘Best R ‘N’ B Single’, ‘Best R ‘N’ B/ Pop Album’, ‘Best Collabo’, and ‘Best Vocal Performance’ categories having recently released his debut ‘Super Sun’ mid-2011.
Stars, like rapper – Ice Prince, pop sensations – Wizkid, Davido, and Soul singer – Praiz, come close with four nominations each while D’banj, Wande Coal, Naeto C, Vector, Olamide, and pop singer Chuddy K l, all have three nominations.
It will be a stiff competition for the ‘Artiste of the Year’ category, which has P-Square, Wizkid, Ice Prince, Naeto C and D’Banj as nominees.
Also, this will be the first time in the last five years that rapper, Modenine will be missing from the ‘Lyricist on the Roll’ category. Those nominated include – rappers Vector, Yung6ix, Iceberg Slim, Phyno and South-South rapper Erigga.
The Headies 2012, to be hosted by Omawumi and M.I, will hold on Sunday October 20, at the Eko Hotels in Lagos.
