Former Moesha star, Yvette Wilson, 48, loses battle with cancer

Former actress and comedienne, Yvette Wilson, died on Friday morning after an unsuccessful battle with cancer.

Yvette, 48, was suffering from Stage 4 cervical cancer — she also suffered kidney problems and needed a transplant — and was in dire need of money to pay her mounting medical bills.

Jeffrey Pittle, a friend who survived Stage 4 cancer himself, created a website for her where friends and fans can help raise funds for her bills. About half of the needed $25,000 was raised.

Yvette starred in the popular TV sitcom, Moesha, in 1996 alongside R&B singer Brandy where she played Andell Wilkinson, the owner of a local teen hot spot.

In 2000, she left Moesha for another show, The Parkers, where she played Nikki Parker, Monique’s best friend. She also appeared in shows like HBO’s Def Comedy Jam as well as Fox Network shows.

Yvette attended San Jose State University and majored in Communications.

Her first stint with comedy was as a stand-up comedienne at a friend’s club after she lost a bet. Thereafter, she decided to make a living off comedy.

Yvette, now the fourth member of the Moesha cast to be deceased, also co-starred in such memorable films such as ‘House Party 2,’ ‘House Party 3,’ ‘Friday,’ and ‘Poetic Justice’ alongside Janet Jackson.
