Kannywood star, Adam Zango, stars as Jabir, in his long-awaited film about a man who goes about swindling shady rich men.
Plot: Basaja Takun Gidan Yari tells the story of Jabir, played by Zango, who goes about tricking wealthy fraudsters. He recovers stolen wealth from them, which he returns to the rightful owners. Trouble begins when he falls in love with a daughter of a wealthy parent and subsequently dupes them. Unbeknownst to him, his love interest, Zee, played by Hadiza Gabon, whose father falls prey to Jabir’s antics, is secretly working with the police to bring him to book.
Review: If you long to see a riveting Kannywood thriller that will captivate you from start to finish, then, Basaja Takon Gidan Yari’, is the movie to watch. An impeccably acted movie, Basaja Takon Gidan Yari, feels more artistically ambitious than Zango’s previous thriller releases.
The movie boasts a stellar cast and catchy dialogue, which actually makes for a great watch. The plot is also complex and tense, and is sure to leave the audience startled from the beginning till the end.
For 120 minutes, it’s a game of wits between Jabir and Zee. This movie will surely remind the viewer of the 2013 American blockbuster heist movie “Now you can see me”.
A typical thriller in its structure, Zango is at his best in the film playing the lead role and directing this multi-cast movie. All through the film, Zee pries around trying to find out the reasons why Jabir pretends to be a prisoner to evade arrest.
Unfortunately for Jabir, Zee is better prepared for the game this time around. She is also hell-bent on making sure that Jabir does not get away with his crime this time around as he always did in the past.
You can feel her clever and deceitful imprints on almost every scene in the movie. Things take a different turn for Jabir, who planned to stay for a few days in the prison, when Zee establishes a very cordial relationship with the prison Commandant, Momo.
The latter is a mean and strict officer who is also poised to ensure that Jabir gets a taste of his own medicine.
The film reaches a climax when Jabir, through his network of friends, gets hold of a mobile phone and begins communicating with his crew in the outside world.
The arrival of his dangerous ally, “Sardauna”, from Saudi Arabia, to assist Dauda (his master planner) in making sure that Jabir succeeds in his mission, is an interesting scene you wouldn’t want to miss.
Is Jabir going to make it to the end or will Zee see through his tricks and ensure that he actually serves the 20-year jail sentence he currently pretends to serve? What ensues afterwards will stun the viewer.
An entertaining film, it has enough engaging elements to interest Zango fans.
The major disappointment, however, is the use of graphic animation of blood shed in an armed robbery scene. A simple use of artificial blood could have sufficed instead of poorly made animation.
But more than anything, the lovely locations, great camerawork and clever use of suspense elements, make for an enjoyable experience for any avid Kannywood movie buff.
A great movie and I rate it 9/10.
