New MTV Base roles excite D’Banj, Falz

Popular Nigeria music artistes D’Banj and Falz The Bahd Guy have both voiced their excitement at the new roles they have been handed by MTV Base which recently unveiled a revolutionary content catalogue as well as the “My Life, My Base” campaign.

MTV Base viewers are set to be entertained by explosive new entertainment, which kicks off with the return of the flagship magazine show, now dubbed “The Bigger Friday Show” hosted by Falz.

“The Bigger Friday Show” will premiere at 6.00pm on 29 April. On Saturday 30 April at 6.00pm, the heavily anticipated reality series “Lip Sync Battle Africa”, hosted by D’Banj and South African actress Pearl Thusi will make its debut on the channel.

Speaking in Lagos during his unveiling, Falz stated that he is happy with the new challenge; adding that he doesn’t fear his new role will affect his music.

“Regardless of the fact that I am a musician, in the music already you find element of this; it is always there,” Falz said.

He continued: “I think being able to marry both together would not be much of a difficult thing.

“I am even very excited about the cross over; I am very popular as a musician. Now I am crossing over to television, it just shows that my brand is multi-faceted.

“I think generally people did not know I can speak English like this. I am a barrister and I am able to balance things,” the lawyer-turned-artiste said.

D’Banj said he was not stepping into anybody’s shoe but being himself.

The Koko Master assured his fans they will have a swell time watching him on his new show.

“First of all, I am not stepping into anybody’s shoes; Africa is different, that is why it is called Lip-sync Battle Africa. I am only going to be playing myself, D’Banj. I have a wonderful co-host who is a great personality, a beautiful kokolet and she’s South African,” he said.

Speaking about the revolutionized content catalogue and the “My Life, My Base” campaign, Senior Vice President & Managing Director, VIMN Africa, Alex Okosi, commented: “We are evolving the MTV Base brand positioning to put our audiences at centre stage. The brand has been a key catalyst to elevating the contemporary African music scene, and, while music will remain a key part of the MTV Base offering, we also want to reflect the amazing lives of our consumers by providing them with the opportunity to shape our content and initiatives. The “My Life, My Base” campaign enables us to highlight a wider array of content and experiences that speaks to the hearts and souls of our audiences across our colourful continent.”
