In Kannywood, Bosho, Naburaska, Sana’a likely replacement for Ibro

Comic actor, Rabilu Musa (Ibro), was a sensation in the Kannywood movie industry. He is said to be the most featured in Kannymood movies.

Ibro also starred alongside actors from Nollywood, Nkem Owoh and John Okafor, in the 2014 Kannywood/Nollywood crossover movies, Maja and Oga Abuja. His roles in the movies earned him several awards.

Following his death in late 2014, he was honoured at the 2015 MTN Kannywood Awards as the Best Comedian ever.

Some Kannywood insiders consider who in coming months may fill the large shoes Ibro left behind.

Suleiman Bosho

Suleiman Bosho was tipped as the next Ibro of Kannywood because of his uproarious approach to acting.

He featured with Ibro in many movies. He was in Maifarin Jini and as well as Hassana da Hussaina alongsode Ibro, Patience Ozokwor and Saratu Daso.

According to Usman Uzee, a movie producer, Bosho is one actor that would fit rightly into the space Ibro left in the industry.

“Working with Bosho was a marvellous thing that happened to me when shooting the film, Maifarin Jini,” Uzee said. “He was very innovative and comical all through the film. He acted alongside Ali Nuhu and I think he personally made that film a success for me.”

He also said although Kannywood will miss Ibro, “Bosho will wipe our tears”.

Musa Mai Sana’a is another Kannywood comedic actor.

Barau Saminu, a resident of Kano state and a Hausa film promoter, said he likes Maisana’a’s comedic skills and approach but “he is not like Ibro.”

“Late Ibro is something else, very creative and flamboyantly comical,” Saminu said. “Mai Sana’a is good like in the film Hanyar Kano, but not like Ibro.”

Mustapha Naburaska

Naburaska has a wide range which includes comedy.

While some observers will rate him as good as Suleiman Bosho many others believe he is a great actor but not like late Ibro.

Naburaska is almost becoming a house hold name in the Kannywood for his comic roles.

According to Hassana Dalhat, a movie promoter in Kaduna, Naburaska can actually fill a lot of the vacuum Ibro’s demise created in the industry.

“I know and have watched many of Naburaska’s films and analyzing his funny skills,” Ms. Dalhat said. “He is a great and good comedian. If not for the many creative skills of late Ibro, Naburaska would have logically filled in the gap.”

Others put forward by observers, film promoters and fans of Kannywood were Falalu Dorayi, Dan Kundalo, and Dangwari.

Nura Aliyu, a film scriptwriter, however, said, “Since the demise of Ibro most producers of Hausa comedies have tilted towards Bosho. In so many cases, you have to return with your script and book him for another time. He is just good.”
