Ummi talks of her big plans for her career.

—————

Ummi El – Abdul is a relatively new face in Kannywood. She first starred Duniyar Nan alongside Kannywood big names: Ali Nuhu, Sani Danja and Yakubu Mohammed.

Ummi speaks to PREMIUM TIMES about her plans for her budding career.

PT: How did you join Kannywood?

Ummi: I used to have a friend who is also a friend of Kannywood producer, Kabiru Danbaure. My friend and I would regularly go and visit Kabiru on location, during filming. One time, Kabiru told my friend that I would do well if I joined Kannywood. He also said I resemble Nafisa Abdullahi, one of Kannywood most celebrated actress. I guess that was how it began.

PT: How did you get your first role?

Ummi: It was my first day on set and nobody expected me to deliver my line that well. When I did, the producer could not help but sign me up. Other more famous actresses were up for the role but I got it. One cannot imagine how I felt acting alongside Ali Nuhu and Sani Danja on the first day of my career in Kannywood. That movie, Duniyar Nan, was indeed a dream come true.

PT: How do you feel when people call you the new Nafisa Abdullahi?

Ummi: I am happy because she’s my role model. I always watch her films to learn from her. Nafisa is a great actress and I am so happy to be associated with her.

PT: Do you believe you can win an award over Nafisa?

Ummi: Yes, that is what I’m working on. She is my idol and competitor and I hope to one day be like her or even better and in fact beat her to the crown.

PT: What other life plans do you have?

Ummi: I intend to continue with my education while I still build my career, but whenever I got married I will draw the curtain on both.

PT: Are you planning on getting married soon?

Ummi: I actually want to further my education for now and also make some kind of impact in my career before I retire in to marriage.

PT: As an old fan of Kannywood, do you think the industry has improved?

Ummi: Yes. I’m especially impressed by the recent improvement in production techniques and inflow of new talents like me.

PT: Are we likely to see more of Ummi El Abdul soon?

Ummi: Yes, in fact, I have other films that are also good and generating applause from fans of Kannywood. I also have some films that I will feature soon. I’m optimistic that I’m going to be great. I will keep working hard to give the best to my fans. I call on my fans to stay with me as I will never disappointment in my acting career.
