Davido won the Best International Act award at the BET Awards.
Multiple award winning pop singer and HKN head, David ‘Davido’ Adeleke, has described his Best International Act award at the BET awards as “a surprise.”
He noted that the African category of the Best International Act was a tough one.
“When I was hanging out with the other nominees before the awards in (Los Angeles), I never thought I would win because I have worked with almost everyone on that nomination list, and they are amazing artists,” Davido told journalists at a press gathering on Wednesday.
2013 Best International Act-Africa winner, Ice Prince, who was also at the press briefing congratulated Davido for winning the award for Nigeria.
“I was really excited when I heard them call Davido’s name. He is a really talented artist and it’s encouraging to see African artists being recognised for their hard work,” Ice Prince said.
Davido beat Diamond Platnumz from Tanzania, Mafikizolo from South Africa, Sarkodie from Ghana, Toofan from Togo and Nigerian’s Tiwa Savage to win the award.
The 2014 BET Awards took place on Sunday, June 29 at the Nokia Theatre L.A. in Los Angeles, U.S.
