Some university dons will present a scholarly book – collection of essays – on the thematic focus and cinematic style employed in the multiple award winning movie, The Figurine.
Titled ‘Auteuring Nollywood: Critical Perspective on The Figurine’, the collection of essays will also use the movie to engage the new trend in the new Nigeria cinema popularity referred to as Nollywood.
Edited by Adeshina Afolayan of the Department of Philosophy, University of Ibadan, the 455-page book includes contributions from other academics including Sola Osofisan, Dele Layiwol, Chukwuma Okoye, Jane Thorburn, Matthew H,
Gideon Thorbunn , A.G.A Bello, Foluke Ogunleye, and Hyginus Ekwuazi.
According to the book organisers, the book will be presented to the public on July 31 at the MUSON centre, Onikan, Lagos and will be chaired by Rasheed Gbadamosi, a former Minister of National Planning.
The Figurine, a movie by Kunle Afolayan, won ‘Best Film’ at the African Movie Academy Awards in 2012 and has featured in several film festivals worldwide.
