The BankyW led label allegedly refused to renew his contract
Lagos based record label, Empire Mate Entertainment, EME, and rapper, Skales, have parted ways.
According to reports, the label allegedly refused to renew the ‘Mukulu’ singer’s contract.
Skales, who was signed unto EME in 2010 alongside pop star, Wizkid, is yet to release an album.
Sources say the label did not renew the rapper cum singer’s contract because, according to EME, it had failed to make returns on its investment.
Skales has removed EME from all his social media page but is apparently still managed by M.et.tal, the same company that manages some of the artistes under EME.
Industry commentators have suggested that Skales failed to hit fame with the label due to his decision to switch from rap to pop. However, a PREMIUM TIMES source has rubbished the report, claiming the BankyW led label actually wanted Skales to do pop rather than rap.
The source also revealed that the delay in the release of Skales debut album was due to the use of his songs in the EME label album released in 2012.
Efforts to speak with Skales proved abortive as calls to his phone were unanswered.
