The Borno Governor hosted the dignitaries.
A former military ruler, Ibrahim Babangida, was a special guest on Saturday in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, for the marriage ceremony of Usman Dantata and Rukaiyah Indimi. The couple are children of two prominent business families in Northern Nigeria, while Mr. Babangida played the role of ceremonial father of the bride, Rukaiyah.
Also at the wedding were Brigadier General Alilu Akilu (rtd) and Kogi State Governor, Idris Wada; as well as other prominent business persons in Nigeria.
The wedding was made low-key because of the insecurity and state of emergency declared in Borno State, family members said.
A heavy deployment of security personnel were seen at the Damboa road mansion, the residence of the bride’s father, Alhaji Indimi, a billionaire with interest in various industries including oil and gas.
The Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima, later hosted a luncheon at the Government House, Maiduguri, for the dignitaries, before the guests departed Maiduguri at about noon.
Mr. Babangida was accompanied by his son, Muhammed, who also married into the Indimi family about seven years ago.
