The single is titled P.I.P.
Upcoming rapper, YC, who debuted recently with two singles, Pass me, produced by Karma, and Where We Dey, produced by Legendary Beatz, has returned with a third single titled, P.I.P. The 20-year-old is signed onto Tinny Entertainment.
P.I.P. tackles current issues in Nigeria such as the child bride debate. The song samples interviews with actress, Stella Damasus, and Zamfara Senator, Ahmad Yerima. In a chat with PREMIUM TIMES, the rapper said he prays that his music gets the deserved attention.
“The major obstacle that I’ve been facing is the fact that I am a rapper, and we all know rap music is one that most people tend to see as an unsuccessful line of work. But, so far so good, I’ve been able to get good audience recently.” Born Alejo Martin, YC began rapping at 16. He credits L’il Wayne, Drake and Kanye West as some of his influences but said that he wants to be recognised for his own unique style.
He dreams of collaborating with MI, Tiwa Savage, TuFace and Phyno and disclosed that he hopes to release a mixtape, album and do more features within the next four months. With the success of his previous two singles, YC said he now has the support of his previously disapproving mother.
“At first my mum didn’t pay much attention because she just saw it as something I would get tired of; my dad’s late so that explains itself. But the day I came home with my Tinny Entertainment contract, she became very supportive, showering prayers and words of wisdom but also hammering on the fact that I must go to school,” he said.
YC said that apart from music, he would have loved to be a footballer or an on air personality.
