I’m yet to decide whether to accept Gov. Akpabio’s gift – Tuface Idibia

Musician TuFace Idibia

Award winning musician, Tuface Idibia, on Sunday said he was yet to decide whether or not to accept the controversial wedding gifts presented to him and his wife  on Friday by Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom.

Mr. Akpabio had stunned guests at the wedding of the celerity couple with the announcement of a donation of two brand new Toyota Prado SUVs to them.

The lucky couple are also to have 29 delegates from Akwa Ibom State attend their star-studded white wedding in Dubai, the United Arab Emirate, UAE, courtesy of the governor.

The Eket-Ibeno Road, which has remained in a bad state for a long time, is to be fully rehabilitated before the next child dedication ceremony of the couple, the governor said.

The gifts have triggered condemnations by some Nigerians who consider them as outrageous and Governor Akpabio as profligate in the management of public funds.

But speaking to PREMIUM TIMES Sunday morning, Tuface said the cars were yet to be delivered and that he would only decide what to do with them after they arrived.

“The governor made a promise, when the cars come, we will decide whether to accept them or not,” the musician said through his spokesperson, Bola Omisore. “We cannot take a decision on the basis of a promise that is yet to be fulfilled.”

Asked to comment on the widespread criticism that has trailed the presentation of the gift to Tuface and his wife, Mr. Omisore said he and his clients were not aware of any criticisms over the cars.

On whether it is appropriate for the musician to accept the gift when the funds used in buying them could be used in solving some of the numerous developmental challenges in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Omisore said, “No comment”.

Tuface better not accept those gifts from a state that can’t boast of providing safe and clean water supply to its citizens or good roads or medical services.

    • ZIGGY

If Akwa Ibom state doesn’t have good roads then try Abia state God’s own State.

      • igbiki

Abia or Delta state governor did not on behalf of himself his wife, children and the good peoples of it respective states give gifts from state funds to the daughter of Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala when she married.

This goes to show how backward you people still are!

What a silly comment. That he will decide when the vehicles arrive is an indication of is anxiousness and willingness to accept the stupid gifts. He has an opportunity with the media to reject it or have it delivered to motherless baby home as a good gesture.

Tuface may be, these questions will help, do you think Mr. Akpabio has an income that can finance the gifts? Without an eye on Akwa Ibom State funds, will Mr. Akpabio make such an offer to anyone? And lastly what kind of character do you stand for?

There is nothing about the gift. To me it was a sign of encouragement to the Nigerian youths that they can follow their talents and become great. How much did our government spent to the niger delta militant? I think this kind of jesture will discourage the youths involve in kidnaping, robery etc to focus on more legitimate way of making money. Moreover this did not stop the Governor from engaging on more people orinted programs that can better lifes in the state. I think this attack is political.

  • ZIGGY

Lets be sincere to our self s how many of u here will reject this kind of gift lets talk true politics apart.

  • Kenjji

Please do not accept the gifts!!

Well, everybody is entitled to his own opinion. Despite the numerous blessings from God, If Tuface Idibia ever have the gut to accept all these ridiculous gifts while the citizens of Akwa Ibom are suffering, then apart from putting his career on jeopardy, he may have a lot of explanation to make on Godswill Akpabio’s reckoning day. My advise for the young man is to flee from the politicians and their greek gifts. They are criminals in traditional attires. A word is enough for the wise.
