Ailing Nollywood actress, Ngozi Nwosu, arrives U.K. for treatment

The Nigerian actress travelled to the U.K. for surgery.

Two months after Nollywood actress, Ngozi Nwosu, got a N4.5 million lifeline from the Lagos State Government to assist in the treatment of kidney and heart-related issues, the actress, famous for her role as Peaceful Peace in Amaka Igwe’s soap, Fuji House of Commotion, has arrived the U.K.

The actress, who is scheduled to commence the first leg of treatment next week, left Nigeria on Tuesday night. Nwosu was in high spirits while awaiting her departure to the U.K, after struggling to raise the sum of N6 million for over a year.

About N2.5 million was already donated by good-spirited individuals while mother luck shone on her when the Lagos State Government gave her a balance of the outstanding funds.

News of the health condition of the once-boisterous actress came to the fore, late last year when hush-hush tales that she had contracted HIV/AIDS and cancer of the blood — said to be responsible for her frail look— surfaced online. The once lively Nwosu kept mum and subsequently went underground.

Many, who found it difficult to get the true picture, got a clearer picture after Nwosu appeared as a guest contestant on the popular TV game show, Who Wants To be A Millionaire, on Sunday, December 15, 2012— her first public outing since she fell ill. Her very frail appearance caught the attention of many.

Speaking in an interview back them, an emotionally distraught Nwosu said she was saddened by the fact that a few years back, she was on the hot seat of the Game Show, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, helping to raise funds for Usman Pategi of Samaja fame. And little did she know that, a few years down the line, she would appear on the same show, in company with two other persons playing to raise funds for her medical treatment.

The actress was a recipient of the N1 million that was won on the show assisted by entertainment journalist and spokesman, Seun Oloketuyi, and fellow thespian, Lillian Amah. According to Oloketuyi, he had no idea about her condition until they met on set of the game show.

“When we probed further on what exactly her ailment is, Ngozi wouldn’t say but instead invited me to her home where she showed me the results of tests stating that she had kidney and heart-related issues. I spent hours in her house as she led me by the hand through the whole gamut of her illness. So far, she said, Amaka Igwe and her husband have been very supportive.”
