Anxiety over Wizkid’s rumoured EME exit

The Nigerian star singer is having a fall out with EME records.

Despite rebuttals from both parties, all is not well in the Banky W led EME records, since rumours of Wizkid’s exit from the label went viral.

While both parties have yet to categorically spell out the true situation, inside sources say that owing to several failed peace-making attempts and efforts to win Wizkid back, following an alleged management crisis, Banky W has sought help from his protégée’s (Wizkid) mum.

It would be recalled that signs of the once rosy union turned sour became imminent after Wizkid posted a series of tweets in January. A particular one read “Don’t take loyalty for stupidity… Don’t!”

A previous tweet went, “Moving on to start all over again!…F–k it!..”

Many pointers such as his absence at the Lagos Countdown Concert on New Year Eve, despite an excuse by Banky W that the young singer was ill when various sources said he was in far-away U.K. having a swell time, raised brows.

Also, Wizkid, who let go of his long time manager and friend, Osagie Osarenkhoe, in September, 2012, is said to be dissatisfied with his contract agreement and sharing quota within the label.

Reports also state that Akon’s Konvict music is offering the young star a much more flexible contract offer.

Yet, Banky W has constantly shut down reports of Wizkid’s likely exit from his label describing it as ‘nothing but rumours.’

During a recent world press conference organised by The Collecting Society Of Nigeria (COSON) at the Protea Hotel, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos, Banky W maintained that “Wizkid remains a member of the EME family. There is no problem that can’t be solved,” in response to questions on the disagreement between him and Wizkid.

Shortly after, he spoke out publicly about the alleged break-up between EME Records and Wizkid on Twitter.

His tweet read, “Wizkid is going international and as a result we have to re-negotiate the contract he signed. Wizkid has his own idea of how he wants to do things and he has plans for himself too. Wizkid is still with us, there’s no problem, things will be sorted out soon.”

With the social media abuzz with stories of yet another musical breakup ala Psquare/May D, there was heightened suspicion after it was recently discovered that Wizkid had signed a management deal with British rapper, Tinie Tempah’s Disturbing London outfit and Akon’s Konvict Records respectively.

The 23-year-old star who spent the most part of 2012 touring Europe, Asia and America had at the beginning of this year acquired a house in Lekki, Lagos.

For now, music enthusiasts are waiting to see if Wizkid will feature on Banky W‘s new album ‘R&BW’ scheduled for release on February 14.

Surprisingly, a tentative tracklist which showcases 15 songs has leaked and so far does not feature Wizkid.

Banky W unveiled the artwork on his Instagram page on February 7; as well as 12 tracks of the album. The tracklist features the EME crew which includes Skales, Niyola, and Shaydee.

Others are upcoming singer, Sammy; U.S. based singer Rotimi; rappers M.I, eLDee, Vector, and Lynxxx; Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie; South Africa’s L-Tido; and Kenya pop group, Camp Mulla.

Considering the rumoured fall out between EME and Wizkid, fans wait with bated breath to see if the young pop star will make the final cut or attend Banky W’s February 15 concert, ‘The Grand Love’ project/album launch.
