A month-long celebration is planned for the Nigerian Art Journalist.

Friends of veteran journalist and Sunday Editor at the Guardian Newspapers, Jahman Anikulapo, under the aegis of The Committee for Relevant Art, are planning a month-long programme to commemorate his 50th birthday.

The Committee for Relevant Art is a group of artistes, art enthusiasts, art promoters and art writers committed to the development of the Arts in Nigeria and their enabling environment.

The series of events which is also meant to celebrate Jahman’s contributions and service to the development of the cultural sector in the country is tagged “3D-Jahman: The Three Dimensions of a Cultural Change Agent – Artist, Activist and Art Journalist.”

According to a timetable released by the committee, the programme will kick off on January 13 with a panel conversation on the interplay between art advocacy, art journalism and art practice and how this has shaped the evolution of cultural propagation in the last 25 years at Kongi’s Harvest Gallery in Lagos. Other events for the night are tribute and reading in honour of Jahman, Songs, theatre skits and performances.

On January 20, his colleagues at the Guardian will host him to an evening of dining and tributes. Five days later at Quitessence Book and Artshop, at an event titled Stripped Bare: Jahman Anikulapo, Warts and All, where friends of the ace editor will take a look at his childhood, career and have a peek into what he plans to do in future.

The writers, Nkechi Nwosu-Igbo and Toni Kan, are also planning a collection of poetry on his behalf.
