Nigerian musicians won six awards at the ceremony
Nigerian stars had an impressive outing at the 9th Channel O Music Video Awards, held on Saturday night in Soweto, South Africa, as they carted away six awards out of an impressive 13 nominations.
The top winners include Nigerian Pop twin duo, Psquare, who won the ‘Most Gifted Group/Duo’ award for their hit ‘Chop My Money’ which featured their former signee May D, while the Flavour banger, ‘Oyi remix’ which had Tiwa Savage on it earned the ‘Most Gifted R&B Music Video of the year’ award.
Hosted by South African media personality, Bonang Matheba, and Nigerian artiste, Ice Prince, the show kicked off with a performance by South African artiste, PRO.
Others performers included Khuli Chana, Mi Casa, DJ Zinhle, Botswana rapper Zues, Nigeria’s Mo Cheddah and this year’s Special Recognition recipient Oskido
The Koko Master, D’banj who stole the show with a performance of his hit song ‘Oliver Twist’ was undoubtedly the star of the night as he walked away with the ‘Most Gifted Male Video of the Year’ award and the ‘Most Gifted Video of the Year.’
Other Nigerian winners include Chocolate City artistes BrymO, who won the ‘Most Gifted Pop’ for his hit Track ‘Ara’ and the award show’s co-host Ice Prince, who won the award for ‘Most Gifted Hip Hop Video of the Year.’
It was also a pleasant surprise for fast rising Nigerian pop star, David O as he beat Kenya’s Camp Mulla and Ghana’s E.L, among others, to win the ‘Most Gifted New Comer of the Year’ award.
