Tonto probably feared that she will booed out of stage.

Eager fans and critics that thronged the Tafawa Balewa Square, TBS, Lagos, Auditorium, venue of the just concluded Best of Nollywood, BON, Awards held on Sunday, to catch a glimpse of Tonto Dikeh’s first pubic performance as a singer were disappointed as the star failed to show up.

With the hype leading to the day of the event, there was heightened anticipation and many hoped to see the controversial actress who was billed to perform alongside Kennis Music act, Capital FEMI, and mount the stage for the first time.

The disappointed attendees wore long faces after being informed that the tattoo-loving star missed the event due to a missed flight.

The organizers said the actress turned singer who was away in Uyo, Akwa-Ibom State, missed the afternoon flight scheduled for Lagos.

The announcement was swallowed with a pinch of salt, as some persons were of the opinion that the actress cleverly avoided attending the event for fear of being booed or mocked off the stage.

The criticisms that trailed the release of her singles notwithstanding, the 27-year old actress, made history when her singles, Hi and Itz Ova, became the most downloaded Nigerian song with over three million hits in 24 hours.

Beside what could be referred to as a clever stunt pulled by Ms. Dikeh, it was a glorious day for the trio of producer-scriptwriter, Emem Isong; ace film maker Tunde Kelani; and actor, Richard Mofe Damijo as they were honoured with special recognition awards at the event.

In response to the gesture, Isong thanked the organisers for the gesture and invited directors, Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen and Desmond Elliot, up on to stage, describing them as two of the directors that encouraged her in her 15 year journey in the industry.
