The Oronna festival is celebrated annually but being rebranded this year,
The Ogun State Government on Thursday said it is determined to support the re-branded Ilaro/Oronna Festival as a way to boost culture and tourism in the state.
The State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, made this known while receiving the members of the planning committee of the celebration scheduled to hold next month.
Mr. Amosun said the government was ready to be associated with the festival. He said the celebration of Oronna / Ilaro festival would attract Ogun indigenes that live abroad.
He advised the organisers to do more on enlightenment and getting the people abroad involved adding that that will further add value to what is being done in the local community.
“This is really worthy of emulation, because you are not only thinking of what the community will give to you but you are giving to the community,” the governor said.
“You are doing things that will outlive all of us which the younger generations will definitely appreciate. Government cannot do things alone, we need people to get involved and that is why the government will look at areas where we can support you,” Mr. Amosun added.
Earlier in his address, the Chairman of the planning Committee, Kayode Odunaro said the Oronna celebration is being rebranded.
“We want to celebrate a festival that will not only rebuild our socio cultural tradition but will elevate it to the standard of a tourism event on the national tourism calendar.
“We are sure that our culture in all parts of Ogun State can be marketed to achieve not only a national status but an international one,” Mr. Odunaro said.
