Thanks Hafsat for doing this. God Bless you Hafsat and the memories of Mom and Dad! I feel deeply touched. Mom and Dad’s memories shall remain eternally and divinely blessed with the mercy and kindness of our living God! Stay Blessed.

  • BankyMons

Hasfat you said your father trusted Nigerian people? Really? May be you forgot that some who are still alive remembers your father’s role in military rule in Nigeria in the 1970s and 1980s! Nigerians remember Abiola very well and not just June 12. June 12 does not define who Abiola was rather it defines our journey to democracy as a people. As with your dad you are on the wrong side of history this time around!

    • endingNaija

Purveyors of Historical Hatred like you BankyMons will also receive mercy of God only because our God is merciful and divinely kind. Nigeria under Muhammadu Buhari shall usher in love, peace and kindness. Buhari’s regime brings TO A COMPLETE END all Hatred and Division among Nigerians and among us all. Even Haters like you are also welcome for all are welcome in the new Kingdom of Love and Mercy to be ushered in by Buhari’s new society, new Nigeria. One people, One country under one merciful, living, loving and Kind God. This-Buhari- is definitely the end of Hatred and the beginning of the mercy, love, kindness and peace of our God which passeth all human understanding. Sai Buhari/Osinbajo oyoyo. Sai Change oyoyo.

      • BankyMons

Keep dreaming but I must warn you that the only way to realise your dreams will be to wake up from them!

  • Joe igbokwe

HAFSAT YOU HAVE SPOKEN WELL . WE KNOW THAT NIGERIA WOULD HAVE BEEN DIFFERENT TODAY IF YOUR FATHER HAD BEEN ALLOWED BY THE FORCES OF DARKNESS TO RULE NIGERIA. TODAY WE LOOK BACK WITH PAINS AND TEARS TO ASK WHETHER NIGERIA WOULD STILL HAVE BEEN LIKE THIS IF YOUR FATHER CHIEF MKO ABIOLA HAD RULED NIGERIA. THE HOPE YOUR SUPER INTELLIGENT DAD PROMISED US WAS DASHED BY SHAMELESS AND RAPACIOUS GREEDY IDIOTS WHO ARE TODAY LIVING IN SHAME AND IN REGRET. THE LIVING MAGGOTS ,THE LIVING DEAD AND THE WORKING CORPSES ARE STILL ALIVE BUT THEY ARE DEAD. TOMORROW WE WILL SPEAK WITH OUR VOTES THE WAY WE SPOKE 22 YEARS AGO ON JUNE 12 1993. WE WILL SPEAK ELOQUENTLY AGAIN AND THE WORLD WILL HEAR US ONCE AGAIN AND THIS TIME THE FORCES OF DARKNESS WILL NOT HAVE THEIR WAY. THIS I PROMISE. THIS IS OUR CHANCE. GENERAL BUHARI IS THE NEXT PRESIDENT OF NIGERIA BY THE GRACE OF GOD.

    • endingNaija

Thank you Joe. God Bless you and your family. Anywhere you turn, you and your family shall forever see and witness the merciful face and kindness of God. This is our chance. And this may just be the last chance. But we will not let it go. We will get there. One People, One Country, Under One Kind and Merciful God. Sai Buhari oyoyo. Sai Change oyoyo.

    • BankyMons

As usual with @Joe Igbokwe,,,the truth is always spinning on its head with you. Was Abiola’s ambition not destroyed by the same forces he promoted against ordinary Nigerians? Karma is a very fair and just person. Shame on all sycophants, just to remind that the elections have held but you have already declared Buhari the winner. Shame!

    • Ayelala

Hafsat, the old men who betrayed your dad are dancing naked in public. We hear you.

  • AChosenOne BySheerGrace

Hafsat, thanks for this piece and endorsement. We hope it translates to votes.
What I do not know for sure is whether Nigeria would have been transformed if your father, MKO Abiola had been allowed to rule. In my mind, I doubt. Your dad was very generous, especially in that arena of sports. He was also very kind to the Emirs in the north and their families believing that, that was the best way to build a winning political platform. He was always a member of that cabal that oppressed the masses and a senior advocate of OIC for Nigeria.
His friends were the IBBs we now all castigate. His enemies were the progressives lead by Chief Awolowo who championed the cause of the down the oppressed. True, I do not believe that your dad would have been a success story for the masses. He contested an election with another mate of his in IBB stable. IBB named your fathers group as the Progressives and named the other, lead by afar less known (even till date) Tofa, the Conservatives. The policy difference between the two groups was not more than the right and left hand of IBB. He could have interchanged the leadership of the two parties but all the same, your fathers popularity and massive financial chest made him win. Like I said, he could have won as the candidate for NRC.
The annulment, which no rational Nigerian likes, only gave your father a last chance to be counted amongst the Good Men otherwise he was always with the bad people.
For the avoidance of doubt, I voted for MKO at that time. I liked Kuderat in a different was as I also like the little girl, Hafsat that took up the cross at that early age. It’s that respect I bear till date as I thank you for your endorsement, not the MKO connection you tried to build up here.

    • Otitokoro

There is an MKO connection precisely because of the unending and complex movement of history. You will permit me to reach into the depth of African thought to show you that connection-the MKO conenction. This is because the Yorubas say ” The white pap cometh from the black pot” Please think deep to see the CONTRASTING and SEEMINGLY antagonistic and contradictory metaphors of the “white” pap and the “black” pot. Please deal with that reflectively. But Let me quickly put it on record that we are here on firm philosophical ground of African thought whereby there is a reconciling unity of antagonistic parts-that is what is in that thought-“white pap” /”black pot”-and that is what the complex wsdom of history shows. Please tarry a little and think do not rush into this for we are on solid ground here. Now this is it-Awolowo created a social democratic political tradition in our country. That tradition bore fruits in our country unevenly. That same social democratic tradition stated its position on issues at different historical moments in our country. It was critical of MKO Abiola. It was part of the birth of the MKO Abiola Hope Message. And finally, ever critical of unjust situations- historically it fell on the shoulders of that social democratic tradition which Awolowo birthed to defend the MKO Abiola mandate. You missed this-big time. The position of the broad global social democratic tradition and the Nigerian one which Awolowo birthed simply tells us that there is nothing PERSONAL about their stance. It is always about the historical SUBSTANCE for and against which position is taken. In other words, it was and is and will never be how MKO Abiola LOOKS-but about what MKO Abiola stood for at each moment(and that is what Hafsat correctly and legitimately gestured to and alluded to historically) , that the social democratic tradition which Awolowo birthed took position for and against. Hence, just as it was then so it is now-it is NOT how Mr. Buhari LOOKS that matter to that same social democratic tradition which Awolowo birthed, it is about the SUBSTANCE-
My dear friend, I am talking about serious understanding of Awolowo’s thought here. I am not talking about the clownish wearing of Awolowo’s cap-of the Yinka Odumakins, the Olusegun Mimikos, the Ayo Adebanjos, the so-called Akure Fashoranti collection of a few Afenifere”elders”!/ members who CLOWNISHLY think Awoist social democractic tradition begins and ends with wearing the famous Awo’s Cap. My dear friend, I am talking about a serious understanding of Awolowo as a social democratic governance tradition and as a social democratic public servant/public service tradition, and as asocial democratic political tradition. Each of these social democratic moments is what you need to scrutinize to see the MKO connection. So? Hafsat “your little” is right. And this is for “hafsat your little girl”, I will advise that “Hafsat your little girl” should stay off this. Some of us have the necessary and sufficient knowledge of the history and its philosophy of that period to take on any denial -both historical and contemporary. In the past when Awo and his thought were attacked, we asked members of Awo’s family to stay off because Awo birthed sufficient members of the social democratic thinkers to respond with deep knowledge to any silly and un-serious attack. Same goes for MKO Abiola. Hence I repeat that “Hafsat your little girl” should please stay off. It is NOT your cup, rather it is OUR cup to take on denials and lay things bare. The historical burden of explaining and defending MKO Abiola is not personal hence IT DOES NOT fall on the shoulders of Hafsat or members of MKO Abiola family. That historical duty falls on remaining members of that social democratic tradition who are not part of your chop I chop politicians but who are active witnesses of that MKO Abiola historical moment, and who were active partcipants of that moment. And I promise you that we are sufficiently involved and we have the historical knowledge -facility to deliver on this for we are bearers of that history and we shall bear witness to its truth as vibrantly as the issue demands.

    • BankyMons

On MKO Abiola, thank you for saying it the way it is! On Buhari, I strongly disagree with you. Buhari should have nothing to do with 21st century politics in Nigeria. It is a huge insult to the progress we have made as a people. I think as they say we will lose what we have before we recognise its value but God forbid it!

      • Otitokoro

Recall how Goodluck Jonathan suddenly woke up year after the event- to remember that young and youthful Nigerians-including a pregnant woman died during the exam exercise conducted by Minister Moro for job applicants? Goodluck Jonathan “remembered” in 2015 and called the families of those who died to give them money just a few days towards election!. So giving money out privately to the families of the victims one week to election and year after the event is Jonathan’s vision of governance!. Second, remember how same Goodluck Jonathan bribed Gani Adams to cause security problem in Lagos.? Jonathan gave Gani Adams the thug contract to guard Nigeria’s internal security. Do you know of any modern state that gives out its internal security to individual thugs-masquerading as “security companies”? Now not even the least developed African countries will do that. But Jonathan did that in Nigeria (the “biggest” economy in Africa!) to sectionally search for votes in Youbaland using the OPC thug-Gani Adams . The two Goodluck Jonathan policies I used here as examples show a willful lack of depth and a cynical degrade of thought-something lacking completely in depth. BankyMons and AchosenOne By SheerGrace show this lack of depth, this fire brigade mode of reasoning -it is a behind the door vote for Goodluck Jonathan- the most corrupt, most wicked and evil President/head of state ever in the history of Nigeria. Two words capture such behind the door vote for evil by BankyMons and AchosenOne By SheerGrace -DUBIOUS and EVIL. But with a vote for CHANGE(Buhari/Osinbajo)-Nigeria will survive these two-EVIL and DUBIOUS mode of governance which Goodluck Jonathan represents and which BankyMons and AchosenOne By SheerGrace defend stealthily.

  • Aminu Baba

Hafsat are back to base or it is just for the elections? Well nice to hear you but most importantly to hear a different you; forgiving, foreward looking and with the masses of our people. May Allah shower your parents with his expansive mercies

  • Murtala Shittu

May the souls of Alhaji M.K.O Abiola and Hajia Kudirat Abiola continue to rest in Al-Janna Firdauzi.I’m sure General Buhari will recognized MKO as the father of modern democracy, immediately he was sworn in as the President of Nigeria.

  • egoigwe

However I look at it, Hafsat’s endorsement of Buhari leaves a sour taste in my mouth. It is akin to me as endorsing Abacha. I really wonder if Hafsat could bring herself to endorse Abacha if he was amongst us today and running for President. I think her age has a lot to do with her political blunder. If the criminal annulment of June 12th bore any significance for her, she would have been quick to realize what an endorsement for Buhari really amounts to. It is nothing short of an endorsement for the evil forces that deprived her father of power. IBB made clear a few days ago that they are all the same and that when challenged they bond themselves in the protective custody of esprit d’corp. He spells it out for us that all military officers, both serving and retired, and especially those that have usurped political power in Nigeria are all birds of the same feather bonding together. It is no different, Hafsat, an endorsement for Buhari is likewise an endorsement for Abacha. IBB tells us so.

    • Otitokoro

      (1) It is historically relevant to know that Major Hamzat Al Mustapha was the head of the killing squad under General Sani Abacha. (1) It is equally historically interesting to know that Major Hamzat Al Mustapha supervised the killing of Kudirat Abiola-Hafsat Abiola’s mom and the wife of MKO Abiola. Now here is the contemporary. It is on record that President Goodluck Jonathan judicially influenced the so-called court judgment freeing Major Hamzat Al Mustapha after he was accused of being part of the killing cohort that killed Kudirat and others. More on the contemporary. President Jonathan recently BRIBED Frederick Fasehun of OPC and Gani Adams of OPC to help him -Jonathan-with votes in the Western part of the country. It is interesting that Mr. Frederick Fasehun was the first to meet the killer of Kudirat Abiola-Major Hamzat Al Mustapha, and welcome him back to society from jail. Mr. Frederick Fasehun then took Major Hamzat Al Mustapha to so-called “Pastor” TB Joshua in Lagos. Now here is a quick re-cap. Goodluck Jonathan judicially induced freedom for the killer of Kudirat Abiola. Frederick Fasehun (one of Goodluck Jonathan’s tools in the Western part of the country -who also said he was part of those who influenced the postponement of the present election from Feb 14 to March 28, and who Jonathan has bribed handsomely) WELCOMED the killer of Kudirat Abiola-Major Hamzat Al Mustapha after Goodluck Jonathan FREED him. Bring history on. We are here to deal with every distortion of history. We gave that promise. We will deliver robustly.

      • egoigwe

You grab at whatever straws that aid your delusion and call it history??? What do you mean by it is on record that Jonathan judicially influenced the so-called court judgment freeing Major Hamzat Al Mustapha? On whose record may I ask? Pray, do tell. I will not let you gloss over that libelous assertion. “President Jonathan recently BRIBED Frederick Fasehun of OPC and Gani
Adams of OPC to help him -Jonathan-with votes in the Western part of the
country.” PROVE IT! How in this world are the likes of Fasehun and Adams going to help Jonathan with votes in the S/W? They have no political pedigree, are not politicians in the strict sense of the word and are largely regarded as societal misfits and regional riffraffs by the vast majority of Nigerians especially in the S/W. OPC is not a political organization and cannot even lay claims to a cultural heritage. The only relevance they can lay claim to are their diabolical affiliation with Bola Ahmed Tinubu. If anything, they subtract from the political value of Jonathan. But did it ever occur to you that perhaps their appointments as pipeline ‘maiguards’ may have in fact been a clever ploy by the Jonathan administration to keep them out of mischief during the elections? You are not here to deal with the distortion of history but to distort it in plain view by making up tall tales as you waddle along.

        • Otitokoro

Do you know the bribe to Gani Adams is similar to how Sheriff kept thugs in Borno state-thugs that were used as electoral weapons who late became the base of Boko Haram.? And do you know that those Sheriff thugs form the social base of Boko Haram? Now this is the conclusion-by bribing and militarily equipping the Gani Adams thugs in OPC “Dr.” President Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan has learned from ex-Gov Sherrif in Borno state to recreate terrorist social base in Yorubaland that will reproduce Yoruba Boko Haram in the militarily equipped (by President Goodluck Jonathan) Gani Adams OPC thugs . Please check historical the facts and the thinking in this before replying. Do not rush your reply. Jonathan has created the social base for OPC/ Boko Haram type of terrorism in Yorubaland.

          • egoigwe

You are hilarious to say the least. OPC is Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s creation that has become a Jonathan headache. OPC is Bola Tinubu’s genie not Jonathan’s and Tinubu it was who served up arms to OPC during his NADECO days. If anyone taught anybody how to weaponize thugs, it was Bola Tinubu. Bola Tinubu it was who set that precedent for MEND, MASSOB, BOKO HARAM and the rest of them. Now, stop dodging my questions: (1) Where do we find that record of Jonathan having “judicially influenced the so-called court judgment freeing Major Hamzat Al Mustapha…” (2) How in this world are the likes of Fasehun and Adams going to help Jonathan with votes in the S/W? (3) Did it ever occur to you that perhaps their appointments as pipeline
‘maiguards’ may have in fact been a clever ploy by the Jonathan
administration to keep them out of mischief during the elections?

If you don’t have answers to these questions, you cannot be worth my time.

          • Otitokoro

There is no difference between the social origins of ex-Gov Sheriff Boko Haram and the 9 billion Naira President Goodluck Jonathan has given Gani Adams OPC thugs in 2015 to reproduce the Yoruba version of Boko Haram . The only slight difference which has nothing to do with the essential character of the social origins of Boko Haram and its recreation in Yorubaland-Western part of Nigeria by President Jonathan is that the Yorubas know how to handle Gani Adams and his OPC thugs if and when they mess around as thugs for President Jonathan to start any Boko Haram nonsense on and in Yorubaland. One Billion AIG Mbu supporting Gani Adams and his OPC thugs will not stop how the Yorubas will handle OPC thuggery and terrorism created by President Goodluck Jonathan in their-Yoruba-midst. If I say this-just know that is the gospel truth-Next?

          • egoigwe

You are such a child. You lack historical perspective as much as you lack coherence. You are a complete waste of my time. If you want a discourse based on historical facts, answer my questions. Your ramblings become childish when you refuse to subject them to empirical discovery. Now, move along and go play with yourself.

          • Otitokoro

Can you demonstrate to the Nigerian public the difference(s) between the political, social, and ecnomic origins of ex-Gov Sheriff’s Boko Haram and the 9 billion bribe President Goodluck Jonathan gave to the OPC thugs led by Gani Adams in the western part of the country? But like I said the Yorubas know how to handle the Gani Adams OPC/Boko Haram terrorism. I am putting it on record, given the cultural ethos of the Yoruba people President Jonathan sponsorship of Gani Adams OPC/Boko Haram terrorism when it raises its head. Why? The Yorubas will handle it-period.

          • irapada

Check the news item in Punch where Gani Adams said they are doing Jonathan bidding because Tinubu will not touch them with a long pole. Check your facts well

Mrs Costello has a right to her opinions. She has indirectly suffer for Nigeria more than you.

Today we shall find if people share the same opinion with her or not.

    • George

      Thank GOD MKO never succeeded.

      • Otitokoro

egoigwe or George any difference? A chuckle. Just asking!

      • BankyMons

Good riddance! I said exactly the same thing. I remember when he came to Uniport in 1992 and gave the University one million naira, he did so to other federal Universities. He tried to re-write history but God is above us all. Fortunately for Nigeria he didn’t get there, the evil souls that God will soon deliver us from is OBJ, IBB, Buhari and Abdusalami Abubakar.
