Surveillance will start in Ogun and Lagos.
The Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, on Thursday threatened to close filling stations under-dispensing petroleum products to unsuspecting customers.
The DPR Operations Controller, Lagos/Ogun Zonal Office, Gbenga Koku, issued the threat in Lagos.
He said that the agency had begun the surveillance of fuel stations in the two states.
Mr. Koku also urged members of the public to provide the DPR with information on stations in their neighbourhoods under-dispensing petroleum products.
“We are going to shut down any filling stations found under-dispensing petroleum products in any locality. We have sent our surveillance team out to monitor filling stations within the Lagos/Ogun axis and identify those that were under-dispensing products to unwary customers,” he said.
The controller said that those filling stations that were under-dispensing petroleum products to customers were committing a crime and flouting DPR regulations.
Mr. Koku, who conceded that some challenges were facing the agency’s service delivery, however, solicited the cooperation of the public in efforts to check the illegal activities of some filling stations.
