Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has advised parents to instil the value of modesty in their daughters.
Mrs Tinubu advised on Thursday in Abuja while hosting Muslim and Christian women at an interfaith Iftar and Lent break-fast gathering.

She also encouraged women across the country to take up mentoring roles for young girls.
In a viral video obtained by PREMIUM TIMES, the former senator said: “I challenge you to have a mentee with you, so that not somebody you’ll have been mentoring all the time, but just pour into the life of a young girl from an indigent background.

“You know, help them, even if it is to give a scholarship, encourage them, and teach them. Teach them good virtue. Teach them how to be good women.”
Dressing
Additionally, Mrs Tinubu stated that nudity does not define beauty, stressing the need for young women to dress decently.
She maintained that while the reasons some young women dress in revealing ways remain unclear, true beauty comes from within.
“Teach them how to dress well. Because we see that our young people, you know, they’ve really taken it, I don’t read social media, so it doesn’t bother me. I will take it again. Teach them how to cover up, and you know, being naked is not beauty.
“You know, we don’t know why they are doing that, but beauty comes from within. You know, and our men, God will also help them and open their eyes. I know social media will go on”, said Mrs Tinubu.
Backstory
Mrs Tinubu’s admonition came amid growing calls by concerned individuals to curb the rising trend of indecent exposure among young women.
This newspaper reported that filmmaker Biodun Stephen had advised young women not to go out without underwear.

Ms Stephen, who began her filmmaking career in 2014 with the release of “The Visit”, emphasised the importance of women always wearing underwear, particularly in situations that might escalate into physical confrontations.
“I do recall making a video a few years ago advising people to stop going out without wearing panties. You said my mouth smelled, but I didn’t stop because of the insults. After some time, I also made another video warning people to stop going out without wearing bras”, she said.
