Nigeria’s John Obi Mikel will again be missing in action when Chelsea line up this weekend to face Tottenham Hotspur in the London Derby.
According to the Chelsea Coach Antonio Conte, the Nigerian national team captain is down with an injury.
Conte said ahead of the London derby with Spurs that Mikel has a muscular injury, hence he is not in the plans for Saturday’s contest at Stamford Bridge.
The Italian gaffer also refused to deny that he would allow the 29-year-old midfielder to find another club in January.
“I don’t know, I don’t know what will happen in January,” added Conte. “Now, I know for sure that I have a squad of players and I’m very happy to have them. In January, we’ll see.”
Aside Mikel, Conte also confirmed the unavailability of skipper John Terry for the Spurs game.
“For tomorrow (Saturday), I don’t have John Terry and Obi Mikel available,” Conte said.
“John has a muscular problem. It’s a pity because he recovered very well from his last injury and now, he needs to stop again.”
Mikel is yet to play for Chelsea under Conte since he returned from the 2016 Rio Olympic Games where he won bronze.
Though some have blamed Mikel’s snub by Conte to his participation at the Olympics, both parties have since denied that.
