The Nigeria U-20 Women’s team, Falconets, have crashed out of the ongoing FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup ongoing in Papua New Guinea.
The hard-earned 2-1 win recorded by the Falconets on Sunday morning over their Spanish counterparts was still unable to keep them in contention.
The Falconets shot themselves having conceded heavily in their first game against Japan which they lost 6-0.
In the final group standings, Japan, Spain and Nigeria were all tied on 6 points, but the Falconets were edged out due to their huge goals deficit.
Crashing out in the group stage this term will be disappointing for the Falconets who went all the way and were only narrowly beaten in the final in the last edition of this tournament.
With the Flamingos and Falconets failing to hit the mark in their respective tournaments, all hope will now be on the Super Falcons to salvage something for female football in Nigeria this year.
