Ikorodu United on Wednesday at the M.K.O Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta beat reigning Nigeria League champions, Enyimba, in a five-goal thriller
Though virtually condemned to go down on relegation, Ikorodu United put up another commendable display to beat Enyimba 3-2 in the thrilling rescheduled Nigeria league game.
Ikorodu United scored the opening goal in the 28th minute through Fatai Abdullahi, but Enyimba drew level four minutes later, when Mfon Udoh scored from the penalty spot.
Goalkeeper Adamu Azeez fouled goal-bound Musa Najare to give a Enyimba an easy route to draw level.
The Lagos club were back in front in the 53rd minute when Oluwole Johnson fired past Enyimba shot-stopper Theophilus Afelokhai.
The Peoples’ Elephant again muscled their way back, this time through Najare who made it 2-2 in the 61stminute
It was substitute Michael Okoyoh that delivered the winning goal for Ikorodu United with his 68th minute strike.
Despite the recent big wins against Heartland, Pillars and now Enyimba, Ikorodu United remain rooted at the base of the NPFL log with 32 points from 33 matches.
On their part, Seven-time champions Enyimba remain in seventh place on 49 points after 33 games.
The hopes of Enyimba playing international football next year via the league is virtually up in smoke and they will have to win the Federation Cup to achieve that mission.
