Enugu Rangers gave their Nigeria League title aspirations a boost on Sunday, crushing Rivers United 4-0 in one of the day’s NPFL Match Day 34 fixtures.
Many had expected a keenly contested game between Rangers and Rivers United, but the Flying Antelopes were just too hot to handle by their opponents.
Tope Olusesi, Godwin Aguda, Chris Madu and Obinna Nwobodo were the goal scorers as Enugu Rangers blew away their fellow title-contenders.
After 32 matches, Rangers are back on the top of the NPFL log with 54 points.
It is expected that Coach Imama Amakapabo and his team will do all they can to keep the number one position as the league nears its closing stages.
Rangers have been without a major silverware for over three decades and they are hoping to end the long wait this season.
Elsewhere, a shock result was recorded in Owerri where troubled Ikorodu United defeated Heartland FC 1-0.
In the other centres, the home teams all made their advantage count, handing varying degrees of defeats to the visiting teams.
