Arsenal Manager, Arsene Wenger, has confirmed that two Nigerian youngsters, Kelechi Nwakali and Samuel Chukwueze, are on course to join the Gunners.
The London Club, which enjoy a great followership in Nigeria, are ready to avail Nwakali and Chukwueze the platform to blossom, to become world-class stars.
ESPN FC quoted Wenger as saying talks were “progressing well” but that the pair were still waiting for the required paperwork to be sorted out.
“Of course there are work permit issues. There are medical issues because they have to make medicals, but it’s progressing well,” Wenger said at his news conference ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup game against Burnley.
“If we can get it over the line now during this transfer period, we will do it.”
Nwakali was named the best player at the last FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile and was understandably pursued by a number of top European clubs, including Manchester City and Bayern Munich among others.
“We identified Nwakali as the player of the tournament basically, and as a top player,” Wenger said.
PREMIUM TIMES confirmed that Nwakali actually traveled to London late Thursday night from the Muratla Muhammed Airport in Lagos as he hoped to fulfill his dream of playing for a top side like Arsenal.
It is understood that the Nigerian duo will cost Arsenal about £3m.
