Kano Pillars were on Friday officially crowned champions of the Nigeria Premier League despite losing 1-2 to Sunshine Stars in the season’s final game played at the Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu-Ode.

The Akure Gunners showed class as they came from a goal  down to end their season on a high to defeat the champions who already knew their crown was secured even before the last fixture.

Nosiru Ali scored first for Pillars in the 3rd minute when he nodded in a cross from the right flank.

Dele Olorundare’s thunder shot in the 20th minute restored parity as the first half ended 1-1.

Twenty minutes into the second half, Ajani ibrahim scored his second goal of the season which turned out to be the winning goal for Sunshine.

Ajani told PREMIUM TIMES he was elated scoring the winning goal in the last fixture  of the season.

A large number of the fanatical supporters came from kano with luxurious buses donated by the state governor.

Pillars finished the season with 61 points and will now represent Nigeria at next season’s CAF Champions League.

Jigawa Golden Stars, Niger Tornadoes and Rising Stars were relegated from the elite division and will only be waiting for the official ratification by the NPL congress to seal their fates.
