Nigeria Premier League new boys, Akwa United, on Sunday denied Rangers FC the chance of moving up the league table as they forced them to a 1-1 draw in a Premier League game played at the Uyo Township Stadium on Sunday evening.
Rangers had previously taken the lead in the game through one of their new signings, Alhaji Dero, and could have overtaken Kano Pillars if the result had stayed so.
However Akwa United put up a resolute performance and finally got the deserved equaliser which means Kano Pillars will remain in number one spot for at least another week.
Gero, who joined Rangers from Kaduna United, said he was happy scoring on his debut for Rangers and has promised to help his new team break the jinx that has seen them not win any trophy in over two decades.
In other matches, Jigawa Golden Stars secured all the three points at stake as thy pipped Kwara United by a lone goal.
The victory takes them off the base of the log but remain in the relegation zone.
In Warri, Heartland and Warri wolves settled for a goalless draw and it was the same result in the game between Dolphins and Ocean Boys.
In the final game of the weekend, Lobi Stars defeated ABS FC by 2-0.
