The camp will hold from August 21 to 24.
The 2013 Hope 4 girls Africa Leadership Camp will be supported by the U.S Consulate in Nigeria, the coordinator of the programme, Mobolaji Akiode, has revealed to PREMIUM TIMES.
Akiode, a former key member of Nigeria’s National women’s basketball team; D’Tigress, also confirmed that WNBA legend, Ruthie Bolton, will be in attendance for the 2013 camp billed to take place in Lagos from August 21 to 24 at the Rowe Park, Yaba, Lagos.
Describing the support from the U.S. Consulate as massive, Akiode also hinted that clothing donations will come from Victoria secret pink and Nike to further make this year’s camp bigger than ever.
“The U.S. Consulate is helping a great deal this season and we have invited WNBA legend Ruthie Bolton to spearhead this year’s program; she will be making her first trip to the African continent specifically for this camp,” Akiode said.
“Ruthie was invited not just because of her wealth of basketball knowledge, but her energy and inspiring message that she passes around to young girls as an inspirational speaker,” she added.
According to Akiode, who also starred in the WNBA and featured for Nigeria at the Athens Olympic Games, the National leadership camp with will have 60 girls from all over Nigeria.
She explained that he girls, all under 17, will take part in a one week camp that includes basketball, leadership training, and sexual abuse mentoring; key programs that help the overall positive development of the girl child.
The girls will spend a week bonding, making new friends, and engaging in various activities that range from listening to inspiring speakers to fun activities outside of basketball.
