Heartland has won the Charity Shield.

Federation Cup Champions, Heartland FC of Owerri, on Thursday defeated Premier League winners, Kano Pillars, 2-0, in a keenly contested match for this year’s Charity Shield.

The Naze Millionaires scored a goal in each half of the game played at the Sharks Stadium in Port Harcourt to emerge ‘champions of champions’ in a match lined up as part of the activities for this year’s Annual General Assembly of the Nigeria Football Federation.

Officials of the Rivers State Government had filed out in a novelty football match between the Governor’s Office and the NFF Executive Committee/Management preceding this year’s Charity Shield game.

Last season, while the Naze Millionaires were able to successfully defend their FED Cup title, they finished 10 points adrift of Pillars on the league table.

With both teams playing out a 1-1 draw in last season’s fixtures, the Sharks Stadium in Port Harcourt served as a neutral venue for a battle of supremacy and the season’s first silverware.

New signings like Bright Ejike, David Tvyakase, and John Owoeri who scored one of the goals for Heartland today, all shone like a million stars and a good buy going into the new season and contest in the Confederation Cup competition on the continent.
