Manchester United lost to Norwich 0-1 to lose the top spot.
Nigerian international, Osaze Odemwingie, was the hero for his English Premier League side West Brom as they, Saturday, got a vital 2-1 win over European champions, Chelsea.
Osaze scored what turned out to be the match winner in the 53rd minute after goals from Shane Long (10th) and Eden Hazard for Chelsea in the 39th minute.
Saturday’s classic goal by Osaze again highlights what he could bring to the table for the national team, a situation which gives credence to Stephen Keshi’s recall of the former Eagles forward.
For Chelsea, the poor run continues as the London team that had started the season like a house on fire has managed just two points in their last four games.
In other games Manchester City gave a five-star performance as they romped over a sorry Aston Villa side 5-0.
Carlos Tevez and David Silva got a brace each while Sergio Aguero got in one as the League’s reigning champions temporarily overtake Manchester United at the top of the day.
City now have 28 points from 12 games while Manchester United have 27 points from 11 games and will be in action later today.
Former league leaders, Manchester United lost by a lone goal to Norwich to lose the top spot. United still have 27 points from 12 matches to slide down to second position on the league table.
In other venues, Sola and Sammy Ameobi lost at home with Newcastle as Swansea City emerged 2-1 winners.
Also another Nigerian Victor Anichebe was at the losing end as Everton lost 2-1 away to Reading.
Liverpool followed up their away draw to Chelsea with a convincing 3-0 win over Wigan Athletic while Queens Park Rangers’ woe was compounded as they again lost 1-3 at home to newly promoted Southhampton.
Mark Hughes is yet to get a win with QPR and today’s loss may just be the end of the road for the English coach.
