Nigerian international Yakubu Aiyegbeni remains in fine form in China as he Sunday scored his eighth goal of the season in his club; Guangzhou R&F’s 3-2 victory over Shanghai Shenxin.
The former Blackburn Rovers goal poacher was the first to find the back of the net; scoring in the 32nd minute of the encounter but the opponents responded in stunning fashion scoring in the 45th and 47th minute through Wang Yun and Anselmo respectively.
It was looking like a bad day in the office for Yakubu and teammates until they were gifted a lifeline in the 66th minute when a penalty kick was awarded off a rash tackle from a Shenxin defender.
Rafael Coelho converted the spot kick and when it was looking like the fixture will end up in a stalemate, Li Zhe snatched a late winner for Guangzhou R&F in the second minute of extra time to secure all three points at stake.
Meanwhile some other Nigerians were also on the scorers sheet across Europe over the weekend.
Brown Ideye who was denied action in Nigeria’s game with Liberia returned to his club Dyano Keiv where he fired in one of the three goals that gave his side victory.
Sone Aluko also scored one of the goals in Hull City’s 4-1 drubbing of Danny Shittu’s Millwall City.
It was the ‘Uche show’ in Turkey as Kalu Uche and Uche Kalu were alo on target for their respective turkish clubs.
The form of the Nigerian players will be heartwarming for Super Eagles Coach Stephen Keshi who is keen at seeing the county through to the World Cup and has insisted on only inviting players in good form for their respective clubs whether hope or away.
