The police in Ogun State said they have uncovered a plot by transport union members to cause mayhem during the Sallah celebration.

The Ogun police spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who disclosed this said the plan was being made by a faction of the transport workers.

‎’The attention of Ogun State Police Command has been drawn to a clandestine plan by a group of people who have been holding series of nocturnal meeting in Abeokuta and its environs with the motive of unleashing violence on the innocent citizens on Sallah day,” Mr. Oyeyemi said in a statement on Thursday.

The spokesperson said the group’s intention to establish a splinter transport union in the state would not be allowed.

‎”The Command therefore wants to make it clear that apart from the five Transport Unions recognized by the state government namely: NURTW, RTEAN, ACOMORAN, AMORAN and TORAN, no other Transport Union will be allowed without passing through the necessary state legislative procedure,” he said.

Mr. Oyeyemi said anyone who instigates violence “during or after Sallah celebrations will be made to face the full weight of the law.”
