The Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, on Thursday said the current economic crisis has marked the end of prodigal spending in Nigeria.

Mr. Aregbesola stated this at a public lecture organised by an online newspaper, Uhuru Times, in Ijebu-Mushin, Ogun State.

“The era of frivolous spending is gone in this country. No money to throw about anymore. This is not a curse but a fact,” Mr. Aregbesola stated.

The Governor said Nigeria must return to agriculture to get out of the economic recession. He decried the past attitude of government to the sector.

He said Nigeria must drastically cut back on importation and improve local production of goods. He said the taste for foreign goods contribute to the high rate of unemployment and crime in the country.

Mr. Aregbesola said his administration in his first term created 20,000 jobs for the youth in Osun and that the state has since had the lowest rate of crime and unemployment in the country.

The governor also tasked journalists on need to do adhere to the ethics of their profession and abhor falsehood, innuendoes and half-truths.

“The media has compromised and it is a fact. Those concerned should address the problem,” he admonished.

Speaking earlier at the event, Wale Adedayo, publisher of Uhuru Times, said he established the platform to fight for freedom and the less-privileged in the society.

Aregbesola is a visionary who has proven that you don’t need oil booming to make a lasting impact. Even with Osun’s little earnings, he has erected the best public schools in the country and is still doing so, and he has shown all other states that school feeding is achievable. All these while continously attaining growth in its agriculture sector through his intense investment in farming too, as we speak many Osun youths are in Germany sent by the Osun government to learn modern agricultural techniques to bring back to the stage. Other states must copy this blueprint to ensure that oil money does not hold us ransom

Aregbesola a visionary indeed and he can’t pay Salaries of Civil Servants!!!! What happened to Opon Imo?

  • Say the truth

Oh yes he created jobs by hiring only graduate to pay them 10000 naira monthly. He also gave out to contractors who deducted 2000 every month from each employee. He wasted money on frivolous projects like airport with nothing on the ground to show anything had been spent. This man is a dirty liar and the likes of Wale Adedayo created such monsters with brown envelope journalism.
