The Ogun State Government said it has accredited 6,000 food vendors to cater for the 1,554 beneficiary pupils of Home Grown School Feeding Programme.
The Programme Manager and Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Projects, Tinuola Shopeju, made this known on Monday. She said the accreditation was towards ensuring effective implementation of the programme.
The accredited food vendors were selected across the 20 local government areas of the state after a rigorous screening exercise for all applicants.
Mrs. Shopeju said the engaged food vendors had been carefully selected at ensuring that hygienic and nutritional balanced food were served in all the public primary schools for the 1,554 pupils. She said the Home Grown School Feeding Programme would commence on September 19 when schools resume.
One of the accredited food vendors, Ogunsola Sakirat, commended the effort of the state government. She said the initiatives would reduce unemployment among the citizenry.
She added that the programme would also alleviate the financial burden of feeding the children on the parts of parents and guardians.
