Wike dissolves 17 local govt caretaker committees

​Just a day after suspending four commissioners, head of service, and one special adviser, the governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has dissolved the Caretaker Committees of 17 local government areas of the state.

The state has 23 local government areas.

According to a statement released Thursday, by the Special Assistant on Media to the governor, Simeon Nwakaudu, the affected local government areas are: Abua/Odual, Akuku Toru, Ahoada East, Andoni, Bonny, Eleme, Emohua, Etche, Ikwerre, Obio/Akpor, Ogu/Bolo, Okrika, Ogba/Egbema /Ndoni, Omuma, Oyigbo, Port Harcourt City, and​ ​Tai.

The statement, which said the dissolution was with immediate effect, did not give reasons for the governor’s action.

The chairmen are to hand over to the most senior officials in their respective councils, the statement said.
