Gunmen kidnap Edo lawmaker’s mother

Police-combat

Abibat Adjoto, mother of the Edo State House of Assembly lawmaker representing Akoko Edo Constituency I, Kabiru Adjoto, has been kidnapped.

The 68-year-old woman was reportedly kidnapped alongside her adopted son in her house in Ikakumo village in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State.

A family member said gunmen invaded the village in the early hours of Thursday, shooting sporadically into the air to disperse people before they took their two targets: the woman and her adopted son.

The police could not be immediately reached for comments.

A family member who pleaded anonymity said the kidnappers assaulted their victims when they were not cooperative before forcefully taking them away.

“They came to our village and started shooting. They took mama away and one of her sons,” the source said amid tears.

PREMIUM TIMES learnt the abductors were yet to contact the family for any demand.
