Kano Assembly orders removal of ‘Kwankwasiyya’ inscriptions from public buildings

The Kano State House of Assembly on Wednesday ordered the immediate removal of all Kwankwasiyya inscriptions from public buildings in Kano metropolis and other local government areas of the state.

The directive followed a motion by Baffa Babba-Dan-Agundi, member representing Kano Municipal Constituency and Chairman, House Committee on Education.

The motion was unanimously adopted by all the 40 members of the State Assembly.

The House urged the 44 local government councils to comply with the order within one month.

The House directed that the Kwankwasiyya inscriptions, linked to former Gov. Rabiu Kwakwanso, be replaced with the names of prominent citizens of the state.

The decision is the latest sign that the row between Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje and his predecessor has deteriorated.
On Tuesday, Mr. Kwankwaso’s house in Kano was barricaded by armed police.

Why should public buildings all bear the name of Kwaankwaso in the first place? Where they built with his money or what. When I visited the state two years ago I found out that even buildings constructed by Abubakar Rimi about 30 years ago were repainted and named Kwankwasiyya, such as the Investment House in Kofar Nasarawa and Magwam water . Even the University built by Gaddafi was named Kwankwasiyya. The height of the deceiept was that Kwankwaso was using the strategy to sale himself as a presidential aspirant in the 2015 election. While none of the late prominent indigenes of the state such as Aminu Kano, Abubakar Rimi, Murtala Mohammed, Sabo Bakinzuwo and Audubon Dawakin Tofa were considered worthy to have any of the projects after them, people from other states that Kwankwaso thought would enhance his botched ambition were named after edifices such as prince Abubakar Audubon, TY Danjuma and First Lady.

They should have demolish all the buildings, flyovers, roads, schools and all the projects executed by former governor Kwankwaso and build their own since they dont have anything better to do… I think Ganduje government has lose its focus and is trying to take us back to stone age era.
