The committee says the meeting was geared towards “tapping on the wisdom of its elders”.
The reconciliation committee set up by the National Headquarters of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Tuesday evening held a private meeting with Alani Bankole, father of the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, at his Onikolobo private residence in Abeokuta, the Ogun State Capital.
The committee, led by its chairman, Francis Fadahunsi, drove into Mr. Bankole’s house in a convoy. They were received by their host as both parties went inside for their private meeting.
The meeting lasted for over two hours and on conclusion both the host and the guests came out smiling.
Speaking with journalists after the meeting, Mr. Fadahunsi admitted that, the visit has a political undertone as it was in the interest of the party, on ways to move it forward.
He explained that, political reconciliation must start from the leaders – of which Mr. Bankole is one- hence, the need to hold a meeting with him.
Mr. Fadahunsi emphasised that it is after meeting with leaders that followership could be addressed and stated that so far the meeting held with Mr. Bankole was fruitful.
He also added that the meeting afforded the committee an opportunity to tap from the elder’s wisdom, stressing that for the growth of any group or association, the elders cannot be sidelined.
Mr. Bankole merely responded with smiles and a nod when asked to comment on the meeting.
The Ogun State PDP is split into different factions thereby weakening the party in the state.
