Riyom Local Government has witnessed one death to many in the various attacks that bedevil the state.
About 10 people were killed on Wednesday night in Ataka Village, Ganawuri district of Riyom Local Government Area in Plateau State.
The attack occurs less than 24 hours after the police commissioner in Plateau confirmed eight people killed in Mavo Village in Wase Local Government Area of the State on Tuesday night.
The majority leader of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Daniel Dem, who represents Ataka Village and neighbouring communities in the Assembly, told journalists that gunmen attacked the village and left several homes in shambles.
The legislator called for immediate assistance to be rendered to the affected persons and communities so that they might have a roof over their heads before the raining season sets in.
Details of the attack remain sketchy but sources said the attack on Ataka Village is an extension of the violence in Southern Kaduna State, which shares a boundary with Ataka Village.
Riyom Local Government Area has witnessed various attacks since the latter months of 2012.
According to the Local Government Chairman, Sam Audu, 100 persons have died while about 60 more sustained gunshot injuries in the past six months.
Mr. Audu and residents allege that members of the Special Task Force, STF, maintaining peace in the state also attack and kill residents
There was also a bloody clash in Wase Village, another area of Plateau State, on Wednesday.
Though some residents claim that about 35 people died, the Plateau State Commissioner for Information, Abraham Yiljap, said the casualty figure being peddled is untrue.
He, however, said more bodies are being discovered with the most recent copse being that of Andrew Kugan, a kid brother to a member of the Plateau State House of Assembly.
Family source said late Mr. Kugan was a staff of Wase Local Government Area.
