Gunmen on Friday shot dead two persons and injured a blind man in an attack in Hammadu Kafi area of Gombe Town.

One of those killed was a prison warder along with the friend of the blind man.

The injured blind man, popularly called Malam Ali, who was critically wounded in the attack, is now receiving treatment.

A source said the killers arrived at the house of the blind man in a black Honda car around 3.20 p.m. and opened fire on the man who was chatting with one of his friends.

The friend died instantly.

The source said the prison officer, who was passing around the area, stopped to greet the blind man and his friend when he was shot.

Contacted on phone, the Commissioner of Police in Gombe State, Mohammed Sule, confirmed the incident.

He said investigation has been launched to get to the cause of the killings.

“Yes, we heard it that it happened at Bye-pass (road).

“Only God knows what went wrong because information got to us that one of them called and asked the prison warder where he was and he told them that he was at the place where they usually sat.

“Something is wrong somewhere, but we are investigating”, he said.

Mr. Sule said the blind man who was injured was at the hospital receiving treatment.

Less than a month ago, a former orderly to Ex-Gov. Danjuma Goje, Rilwanu Gadzama, was killed by gunmen in the same area.
