Ogun lawmaker allegedly parted with N5mn to free kidnapped wife

Folashade Onademunren was kidnapped on December 4.

A member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Samson Onademunren, whose wife, Folashade, was kidnapped on December 4, 2012, paid N5 million before his wife gained her freedom, a family source has said.

The family source, who stated this to PREMIUM TIMES, preferred to remain anonymous.

Mr. Onademunren was away in United States of America when the kidnappers struck in Ijebu-Ode and kept his wife in their custody for days.

The lawmaker had to cut his trip short so as to see to the release of his spouse, who spent four days in captivity.

Mr. Onademunren and his family, worried sick about the kidnap, secretly negotiated with the kidnappers, and agreed to pay the sum of N5million into a bank account given to them by the abductors, the family member said.

The family, PREMIUM TIMES gathered, resolved to keep the mum on the manner of release as the victims safety was paramount to them.

When Mr. Onademunren was approached, he declined to comment on the issue.

Kidnapping for ransom is on the rise in many parts of Nigeria including Ogun State. Families of victims prefer to pay the ransom amount to save the victims than wait for security agencies to free them. Many however hardly confirm any payment.
