The Ogun State Government said the rehabilitation is in line with government’s urban renewal programme.

The Ogun State Government said it has concluded arrangements to construct a rehabilitation centre for the destitute this year.

The State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Elizabeth Sonubi, dropped this hint while speaking at the party for Special Children in Government, Private Homes and Orphanages across the State.

Ms. Sonubi, speaking at the party, held at Stella Obasanjo Children’s Home in Abeokuta noted that the construction of the rehabilitation centre is in line with government’s urban renewal programme.

She said that the centre would provide accommodation for the destitute, give them a sense of belonging and help in reintegrating them back into the larger society.

“We are taking steps to ensure that we cater for every citizen of the State, every person that lives in the State, we want them to live peacefully, we want them to be comfortable, we want dividends of democracy to reach them as well, that is why, 2013, we will have our own rehabilitation centre,” she said.

She stated that the State Government decided to organise the get together for the kids to show them love and make them happy in the spirit of the season and lauded operators and management of the various homes for their care for the children.

Ms. Sonubi assured that on its part, the State Government would continue to render assistance and create enabling environment for them to perform better in the year and beyond.

Speaking on the issue of abandoned children and those roaming the streets during school hours, the commissioner said that since the inception of the present government, there had been drastic reduction in the number recorded, attributing the drop to effective media awareness campaign.

The Executive Secretary of Ijamido Orphanage Children Home, Ota, Stella Willoughby, thanked government for thinking about the kids.

She described it as a clear attestation to the readiness of the ministry to ensure that they have a meaningful lifestyle for the kids.
