52 secondary schools will benefit from the N190 million science equipment, Ondo State government says.
The Ondo State Government has distributed N190 million worth of science equipment and mathematical kits to public secondary schools across the 18 Local Government Areas of the state.
Commissioning the equipment on behalf of the state government, the State’s Commissioner for Education, Remi Olatubora, recalled that last year, the state government approved the purchase and distribution of complete mobile science equipment to 50 secondary schools across the state.
Mr. Olatubora said that 52 secondary schools are benefiting from the equipment this year in all the 18 Local government of the state.
“We embarked on massive distribution of science equipment because when we went round schools Laboratories, we discovered that they are not well equipped .We immediately reported to the governor.
“Since last year, Dr Mimiko has been approving funds to buy schools equipment for distribution in secondary schools across the state,” he said.
He described the occasion as one of the giant strides of the present administration in the state to improve science education in schools.
The commissioner said that the Mimiko led administration has taken special interest in developing the state education sector since his assumption of office in2009.
He pledged that the distribution of science equipment will be a continuous exercise saying all public schools will benefit from the exercise. He said all equipment are of world standard and therefore enjoined teachers to judiciously manage the tools and put them in to optimal use.
Principals and science teachers who spoke at the occasion said they are overwhelmed by the quality of the equipment. They however promised to ensure that the equipment will be used to improve science education in their schools.
They equally charged students to reciprocate government’s gesture by working hard to get good results in their examinations.
