The ceremony, that also saw the arms unveiled, took place at the Command Headquarters located at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the state capital.
The unveiled arms and ammunitions are the first batch assigned to the Corps, with a call on the officials not to see them as tools of oppression.
The ceremony was witnessed by other security bodies including, the military, police, immigration and the state security services.
In his speech, the Commandant of the Ogun Corps, Popoola Bamidele, said the unveiling should not be seen as a fun fare.
“As we understand that arms bearing come with additional responsibilities as far as security of lives and property is concerned” he said.
Mr. Popoola said that officials of the corps have invested so much time and committed enormous resources towards giving the corps personnel the best training on arms carriage.
The command boss said the corps members underwent a six months intensive arms training in Owerri, Kaduna and countries such as Italy, Israel, and China.
“As a matter of fact, other batches of officers are presently being prepared for the same exercise scheduled to take off soon” he said.
Mr. Popoola said the arms came at the right time considering the enormous security challenges bedeviling the country.
The Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, in his remark, advised the corps members not to see the arms as a tool of oppression in the society.
“Don’t use the arms as a tool of oppression to the people. Be cautious; be disciplined, diligent on it. Don’t be carried away in molesting residents” the governor advised.
