I’m not under probe, I transformed Nigeria’s aviation sector – Stella Oduah

A former Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah, says she is unaware of any probe by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on any matter allegedly concerning her.

She was reacting to media report that she had been invited by the anti-graft agency for questioning over a N225 million bullet-proof BMW allegedly purchased her when she was a minister.

The car was said to have been bought by one of the agencies under the aviation ministry.

But Ms. Oduah told the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Sunday that there was no basis upon which she could be probed, saying that the vehicle did not belong to her.

“To start with, I do not know where any letter on the probe is because nobody has invited me, and as far as I know, there is nothing and there cannot be anything on invitation for purchase of a BMW.

“I did not buy a BMW; I have never bought a BMW. The BMW is a property of the government, and it is still in government care.

“The car is with the agency that bought it.

“The agency is still using it, and so, why will the car which belongs to government and in the care of government and being used by government, be an issue for me?

“I have since left the ministry,” she said.

She said that the reports were the handiworks of persons, who were not comfortable with the tremendous achievements she made in the aviation sector and wanted to tarnish her image.

The former minister said that when she was appointed, Nigerian airports were in poor states and could be compared to motor parks.

She said that no effort by anyone, including her predecessors in the ministry, could be compared with she did to reposition the aviation industry for the period she was the minister.

Oduah, now a lawmaker, challenged anyone to do a comparative analysis of the sector before she became minister, while she was minister and after she left as minister.

“I think some people are not just comfortable that what we did in aviation is unimaginable.

“What we did in aviation was so far-reaching that it had never been done before; it was unprecedented.

“To get into the lounge where people sit was impossible; most motor parks were better than what we had at the airport, whether in Lagos, Abuja or Sokoto.

“We took them on and efficiently, and in a very timely manner, changed every one of them and made Nigeria airspace safe,’’ she said.

She said safety of Nigerian passengers was made a priority while she held sway, adding that landing gears, flight gadgets, and every single thing was functioning to make Nigeria’s airspace recognised by International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

“I challenge anybody to just do a spreadsheet; how aviation was before, how I made aviation and how aviation is today.”

  • Suleiman Alatise

What a man can do, a woman can do even worse.

  • Dan_Arewa

Mama BMW, you are being investigated because of the Price of the Cars. You over inflated their price.

  • Wale

This is what happens when one decides NOT to take care of business at the right time. If this karua had been tried in the court of law and found guilty of theft two years ago, we wont be subjected to this ranting.

  • Spoken word

e no go better for stella oduah.maybe she has never been to MMIA after her so called renovation.

  • Wale

As someone who uses the airports in Nigeria frequently I completely agree with the madam that a lot was done during her tenure to improve our airports. The problem with people like that just like el rufai is that there are so many evil forces at the federal level that you have to fight to make any meaningful progress. These dark forces are so powerful that they not defeat good people they paint the good ones like these as evil through the press without any evidence. They have always succeeded because we are gullible people. Apart from the visible achievements recorded during her tenure anyone who has a record of misdeeds against her should come forward with proofs. We can scare good people away from government if we continue like this

Mr Wale, if people like you are more in this country then our hope to achieve progress is nothing but a mirage. Let’s call a spade a spade instead of allowing political sentiments becloud our judgement. If you think because you are not using the airport today then mediocrity should be celebrated; remember your children who may excel tomorrow and become personality that travel around in the air. Under Stella Oduah, our airports were bad from stair lift to poor drainage system that causes us to have flooded airport. The security system was pretty poor that anything goes in and out of Nigeria until recently that this issue is being tackled. Our run just recently started witnessing what is called comprehensive renovation.
It was just late 2016 and early 2017 that Nigeria got a better rating at the International Aviation organization level.
Nigeria just attained a high level safety rating which places it amongst the world leaders in aviation safety. The country climbed to Level 3 State Safety Programme (SSP) Implementation Process. Nigeria has therefore joined countries like the United States
of America, United Kingdom etc in this echelon.
This categorization is dependent on the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), who tracks the SSP implementation process of member-states via its Integrated Safety Trend Analysis and Reporting System (iSTARS).
Member states in tandem therefore deploy this platform to undertake Gap Analysis, define their action plans and benchmark their progress. Only two member states-Australia and Sri Lanka- has achieved full implementation of the SSP according to ICAO records. Nigeria is striving to achieve Level 4 which is 100% by the end 0f 2017.

The worst aviation minister in history is Fani drug Kayode who Obasanjo used to compensate Bola Ige. Fani turned around, took money and finished off Bola Ige with his group. Nemesis is destroying him slowly. A perennial thieff that scammed Jonathan to bone marrow.

  • Dawood

Make dis ashewo go face de law, jare. Transform wetin? De only ting dis woman transform na airport to looting depot.

      • NwaIgbo

Do please, tell us how people qualify to own oil wells in Nigeria?

  • Seyi Adeniji

This lady is a liar. Under her administration the Airports were terrible with sub-standard renovations. Her job performance was below average yet she got elected to the Senate. These are the people running Nigeria. What kind of Bill has she propose to the Senate

    • George

If she is a liar we can all see how the airport is now and how it was during her time.

People like you are the reason we have calamities now as a president.

I doubt if you ever been to airport before if you do go back there now to check how its now.

      • Seyi Adeniji

You appears like you don’t see nothing wrong with her while she was running the Aviation Department. I guess you are part and parcel of why the country is not moving forward. The repairs she claimed she did were sub-standard. Good Night

  • George

Investigations for three years going for a case of fraud APC said is very open so what is holding her not to be charge to court.

Silly people send the case to court if she done anything wrong not shouting after two years.

My sister fine lady just ignore them as God Almighty has sent confusion into their means already.
