A Nigerian academic and foremost literary scholar, Francis Abiola Irele, is dead.

A relation of the don confirmed his death to PREMIUM TIMES.

Born in 1936, Mr. Irele graduated from Ibadan University in 1960. He completed a Ph.D in French at the University of Paris, Sorbonne in 1966 and held teaching positions at the University of Ghana, Obafemi Awolowo University, and University of Ibadan.
