Presidency, Soludo clash over Nigeria’s economic crisis

Charles Soludo
Charles Soludo

The Presidency on Thursday replied the former Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Chukwuma Soludo, who accused the Buhari administration of worsening the state of Nigeria’s economy since it took over almost two years ago.

Mr. Soludo said the government had not shown sufficient seriousness in addressing the nation’s terrible economic situation.

Speaking in Enugu on Thursday at an interactive Forum, titled “Big Ideas Podium”, organised by the African Heritage Institution, Mr. Soludo said the present administration had made the economy several times worse than it met it in May 2015.

“Nigeria is now, some say, a fragile state; some say a failed state. It is not going to be a tea-party to come out; but unfortunately, we are not taking it seriously.

“Nigeria is not just in recession, but in a massive economic compression,” the professor of economics was quoted by the online newspaper, Daily Post, as saying.

“It will be a miracle for the present APC administration to return this country to the dollar size it met in May 29, 2015, if it stays for eight years, till 2023.

“They inherited a bad situation, but they have made it several times worse. Getting us out here is not a tea-party. Nigerians should rise in unity. It should no longer be ‘let them.’ Only united citizens can rescue Nigeria out of this position.”

Mr. Soludo later told PREMIUM TIMES the report mostly reflected his remarks at the event.

He said his message was essentially that Nigerians cannot just sit idle in their homes and expect “change” to happen.

“My idea is that of Citizen United; we won’t get the leadership that we deserve; we won’t get the leadership that we want; we will get the leadership that we demand,” he was further quoted as saying.

“They gave us manifestoes, promised a lot and we said ‘yea’; how many have gone back to check how far them are implementing those promises; if any party implements 25 percent of its manifesto, Nigeria will get better.

“If you check any state run by APC, PDP or APGA, the three parties that have governors, can you spot any difference in any of those states that will distinguish one party from another? It is the same.

“APC said in its manifesto that it will restructure Nigeria, that Nigeria was not one, but after election, has anybody heard about it (restructuring) again? They control 23 States and the National Assembly, all they need is one more State to get the required 2/3; so they have what it takes, but they are not talking about it again.

“If we don’t rise to hold them by the jugular, Nigeria cannot go anywhere. We have to start preparing for a post-oil economy; insanity is to repeat the same thing over and over again and expect different result.”

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo’s spokesperson, Laolu Akande, said in a statement on Thursday that Mr. Soludo had ignored the new direction the government was leading the economy in a manner that suggested “selective amnesia”.

He said the former CBN governor was entitled to his “opinion”, while Nigerians were entitled to “facts” about the economy.

“The opinion he (Soludo) expressed is understandable in a democratic system, but the facts are that the challenges of today are a direct result of wrong-headed decisions of the past, and quite mind-boggling actions of those who were entrusted with leadership,” Mr. Akande, said.

He said it was undeniable that the Buhari government was working hard to change the economy.

“What even Soludo cannot deny is the fact that the Buhari administration has ended the bleeding of the nation and is implementing reforms.

“The Buhari administration is spending more on infrastructure at a time when resources are lean. When we had abundant revenues what happened was profligacy and plunder,” he said.

“What no one can deny is that the Buhari administration is now implementing on behalf of ordinary Nigerians a Social Investment Programme that is unprecedented in Nigeria’s history, paying poorest Nigerians N5,000 monthly, feeding school children and engaging hundreds of thousands of unemployed graduates,” he said.

“Apart from plugging loopholes in several ways, including through the Treasury Single Account, he said the Buhari administration was raking in resources that otherwise were hidden and misappropriated by the previous administrations.”

He said the country was doing better in the oil and gas sector, and had improved fuel product supply.

“The fact that Nigeria no longer has to shell out billions of dollars for joint venture cash calls, was not only a step in the right direction, but one that was bringing relief from a burden that slowed down investments in the oil industry,” he said.

“It is certainly quite curious that very few among us will choose to ignore the new direction, but make store of the burdens of past without proper attributions. This appears to be selective amnesia to which they are certainly entitled.

“What would have been more patriotic is that people of goodwill will join several others working with us in this administration and offer progressive ideas and join hands with a government and administration that everyone knows are led by a President and Vice President who are  trustworthy and are people of unabashed honesty, and integrity,” Mr. Akande said.

“The Buhari administration…”, Where is this Buhari self? Then Who are the beneficiaries of the 5000 poverty relief scheme, if not the almajiris and herdsmen Who indirectly are being paid to kill Christians? This govt has failed and taken us from bad to worse. Nigerians will show their disapproval by 2019. APC is a total delusion.

    • Absolutely Sane

You are seriously the one high on something. The first time I will see a government so serious about infrastructural development in this country is now. The first time Agric and Mining will contribute that much to the GDP of Nigeria is during this administration. You can allow hatred resulting from tribalism and religious bigotry to push you into lagoon for all I care.

    #ProfSoludoForPresident2019

    • Wakawaka

Soludo is not an angel, but should he dare contest, I will not hesitate to cast my first presidential vote for a man who certainly cannot be compared to the ineptitude called Buhari plus Jonathan plus Obasanjo! Nonsense.

      • emmanuel

If Soludo has hired minions to do the online marketing, he surely has wasted his money. The man xank xerox NEEDS write up from the internet; bamboozoled Obj with it and he got his first NEEDS job and subsequent CBN.
Ablock head that ran Nigerian banks down before he left, want to lead Nigeria? Even Anambra people knows that he is not sound enough to lead them

      • PolyGon2013

If he cannot even win a primary in his own state what makes you think other Nigerians would vote for him?

  • Sarah

Soludo, we have had enough armchair criticism. Your achievements at CBN were made because you were on the ground not from a cosy distance.
Unfortunately even your own people rejected you; first in PDP and then Obiano defeated you in APGA. If your own people cannot trust you to run your state why should SE trust you to run the region, or why should Nigerians trust you to run our country?
Create your party and lets see how well people will accept you.

    • Abdussalami Muhammad

      Good one!

    • abodes_124

That is his political history. have you got any cogent rebuttal for the facts and opinions he has set out ? This is the slight difference between the postings of those who went to school and those who the school went through.

  • emmanuel

Soludo is a fake man, a coward and rogue. He can speak now that he has the feelers that Angel Michael may not come back to Aso village with the legion of terminal ailments in one human body, so he can talk now.
Same thing Sanusi has been doing of late. How people can be mischievous.
If Buhari returns, Soludo, Sanusi and Obasanjo go hid their scrotum with their tails and run away like a threatened Dog.

  • John Abayomi

Prof Soludo se na governorship, Senate, House of Rep or VP? which one gan be ya interest?………typical Nigerian politician…

    • abodes_124

none . he has your interest at heart

      • John Abayomi

        I hear you

  • Abdulkadir

It is quite unfortunate the fact that Nigerians, including their elite, appear to think that to be popular politically, you must show that you are completely a moron. If indeed Soludo were to offer any criticism against this government, then it must be side by side acknowledging the fact that there was a mess already in the polity. Soludo himself made mention of a fact well known when he said, before the 2015 election, that whoever wins the election will have a hard time reviving the economy. This is even as crude oil was still selling above $50 per barrel. One will have expected that he will acknowledge the enormity of the task when prices fell below $30 a barrel. But typical of politicians, here is Soludo trying to win popularity just by attacking the government of the day. I even realised he has a shared interest with the terrorist Kanu.

    • Ohnigeria Godsavenigeria

For the past 6months,what has been the average price of crude.

    • abodes_124

Sir, if crude oil rises to $200 dollars a barrel today Nigeria’s economy will remain in a bad state because of the ignorance about many things in general and the economy in particular that this government has exhibited to date. If things begin to change with the new boy then perhaps….

      • persona

Sir, are you aware that we have saved even in this hard times? External reserves that could not be grown has risen with not only half the price of oil in the years of plenty but while we sold about half of what we used o sell?
The present admin made lots of political mistakes but there is no doubt that they are doing real hard economics that will bring about genuine growth.
Rice, which is our most staple food has increased and import has reduced. Tomato paste importation has reduced, CBN just said the almighty tooth pick has begun with 2 companies.
Real economy and real growth is what we need and it will take time.

        • abodes_124

I am aware that for those dying of starvation due to this governments action and inaction time is a luxury they can ill afford

    • absam777

The guy is warming up for election. He must have his name in the media.. This include his recent visit to Kanu and the crap press conference and statement. I am disappointed that a national Igbo intelligentsia will choose to think so low

  • Ohnigeria Godsavenigeria

Truth is life, but it is very bitter and very uncomfortable with the liars, hypocrites, falsehood peddlers, clannish bigoted mindsets, and pretenders.
Buhari have really destroyed Nigeria with his clannish bigotry and cluelessness. Soludo Kudos for speaking truth to the tyrant but be you prepared for a sting operation.ok

  • Iyke Okechukwu

Can Nigeria rise up again…we all have failed and forgotten God and we think we can do it ourselves. we are not sincere not even me. But what will the way forward be…until we can look our father, mother, brother, etc in the eyes and say to them you are corrupting the system by this action, we will remain in this pit for a very long time.
Personality attack will never solve any problem. that has been one of Nigeria’s greatest problems. just look at our responses…always along personal lines and not the issue on ground.
Long live humanity, May God do His will for Us all.

    • systematic

good u are very correct u really show ur maturity

    • Paschal Charles

What do you expect when you forcefully join three countries together as one and call them the meaningless name … Niger.. Area. People with different culture, religion ,life style, feeding etc . Man let’s stop deceiving ourselves in this entity called Niger – Area . Disintegration is the only solution.

  • Imam OLODO

Even in death Prof Soludo’s dead brain cells will ever be more useful, relevant and smarter than the ‘living’ cells in Imam Olodos’s brain…A brain that could not pass ordinary WAEC exams even at a young age of 21 when he wrote the exams in 1961. My advise however to the handlers of Buhari (If he is still alive) is to try to BREAKDOWN Soludo’s points in the simplest form possible so that Imam can make some sense from it. 1914 remains the problem with the countries in Nigeria. It is absurd that in 2017 a man like Buhari who cannot be elected to Chair a District anywhere else in the world is Nigeria’s president. Too bad. Shame!

    • Absolutely Sane

The Olodo’s brain is fixing the airports now. The same brain reconstructing the roads in east and putting in place good rail system for the country. As long as I can see the brain resurrecting our nation agricultural and mining prowess and recovering our looted commonwealth by your smart brained brothers who cares about your own excellent for nothing brain. SAI BABA the Mister Integrity himself. My simple prayer is that as they remain blind to all the good things you have done and still doing, may God turn them real blind that they will not see anything again for the rest of their lives.

      • Odus from UGHELLI

“As long as I can see the brain resurrecting our nation agricultural and mining prowess and recovering our looted commonwealth by…”

Whose wealth are you referring to as “Commonwealth”? I hope not m oil fields in the Niger Delta? Fire and thunder will strike you and your generation for attempting to claim that my ancestral heritage and God’s gift belongs to all who live in Nigeria.

If Fulani can claim their Cattle and kill for it without sharing ownership of the flock with fellow Northerners talk less of all Nigerians why then do you believe we will not protect and do same for our Niger Delta oil and gas wealth? Be warned!

        • systematic

man u need to go back to primary school so that u can lean how to concoct stories

          • Paschal Charles

And what certificate do you have that made you think you can correct somebody in this forum? Mr know all.

          • systematic

is only people like u value certificate but intelligent people are after what u can produce with ur brain

      • Odinaka

How many times was the airport renovated in the past? This is routine and not an achievement. On agriculture, ask yourself, why was Akinwumi Adesina praised to high heavens? It’s b/c rice revolution started for the first time during his time. In sugar and sugar cane value chain, the last administration attracted $2.6 bn investments, with Dangote, Flour Mills’s Golden Sugar, McNicols, BUA, Crystal Sugar investing in Jigawa, Kwara, Gombe and other northern states. Do you know that the last administration brought together rice investors, notably Dangote, Stallion, Olam etc, who invested billions on plantations. Time and space won’t allow me to educate some of you biased guys who are influenced by primitive prejudices or crass ignorance of the last administration.

        • systematic

and the rice did’nt grow up since 2011 tile 2016 abe big full

          • abodes_124

            ?????

        • persona

Adeshina was hailed for foiling the fertilizer racket and the initiative to seek a potential in agric. We never got the direct benfits. Rice grows within a calendar year as you have seen between Lagos and Kogi. Its not rocket science sir. The nation will move better when every person is more patriotic than trying to hail one oppressor against the other.
We were making so much from oil, didn’t we still borrow money to buy arms? Didn’t we get loans to pay salaries in a buoyant economy? Sir, every admin has her highs and lows. The present admin has not carried people along BUT you cant deny that they are working to make us more dependent on ourselves. When a man is fed, he is not restive and that is the whole approach here. Tomato ebola came, we all shouted. The government addressed it and no one praised them. The truth is, Nigerians always feel entitled and it shouldn’t be, what we need is to make every leader accountable and the nation will benefit as a collective.

          • king

The same administration that is said to be corrupt foiled fertilizer racket?

          • abodes_124

I wonder … and also sacked Yakubu the NNPC MD who became an APC chieftain and has now been caught in the crossfire between Magu and Daura.

        • king

          Thumbs up!

      • systematic

very good only people with blind mind and blind eyes will not see the real progress that we are getting

      • Paschal Charles

Did I hear you say reconstructing road in the East?

      • Gary

Liar, you now want to claim the achievements or projects started by others as those of the dunce from Daura. Nice try.
Government is a continuum and each regime, if led by intelligent minds, builds on what it meets on the ground. That is why we have EFCC, TSA, BVN, rail and road projects that were in the pipeline while Buhari was (and still) searching for his School Certificate.

Our saving grace now is that the Dullard is sick in London and giving Osinbajo a chance to rectify his ignorant policies.
May he recover but not return to office anytime before 2019 for the good of the country.

        • persona

Sir, you cant have it both ways.
EFCC was created by OBJ, it was made redundant by another.
If government is a continuum, then, it doesn’t matter who found the snake, its who kills it.
The design for railways were done by OBJ and were continued by GEJ and Buhari is not only completing it but expanding on it.
Same for agric and solid minerals.
The TSA/BVN were all tools and they only found use when someone with heart to implement them came onboard. TSA was never implemented for fear of the economic collapse they had claimed was solid…is that not an irony? If I claim a house is well built and I am scared to put a nail in the wall!!!
The issue here is, the nation as a whole need to move on. We the people always get the short end of the deals, we fight the other while the criminals escape and still oppress us.
The country is greater than party or persons, its worth sustaining than hailing people.

          • Gary

And your point is??? Thanks for validating mine that Buhari cannot be given credit for policies and projects he did not initiate.
He’s gone after the Abacha loot relooting under the PDP and now we have the Paris Club refund scandal under the saints of the APC.
Care to also give Buhari the credit for this brewing monumental scandal that Ibrahim Magu has inadvertently exposed in his bid to nail the Governors and Saraki who oppose his confirmation?

Stay tuned when PT and the rest of the media begin to focus on the Paris Club refund scandal.

          • persona

Gary, clearly you should have seen that SR’s job blamed only APC states when indeed PDP states got their share alike.
The integrity of that SR’s account fell apart when they said that Dangote was paid from a central purse…so PDP governors looked on to have their own share be given to Dangote too?
Bros, as you may have observed, I no dey attack anyone, mine is not to make us look like idiots.
Is it possible that Buhari will issue an approval for a clear infraction that was proved about the Paris club deduction and then CBN will be the conduit to repay a campaign fund traceable to Dangote? bros, commonsense should always prevail. As you may have noticed, no news outlet ran that same story just as SR dey do recently even with the health stories ranging from prostate cancer to Crohn’s . Bros, not everything you read from that site is true…NOI too was claimed to have a hospital with images of something non-existent, Saraki’s famed passport with a wrong name also. Always read these stories with a pinch of all kinds of seasoning.
Gary, corruption dey town and it will not be banished quickly as we want but skewing things to say that government is a continuum when the present finishes a FG pledge to her citizens is not a deterrent to say they will not do their own new initiative. The N-Power has employed many Nigerians, Teachers have been employed, the largest police recruitment has happened, they also have experienced the hardest fall of our economy and currency in 30 years. Its always highs and lows. Make we leave people face the country is my point incase you didn’t get me earlier.

          • abodes_124

If only he can manage to put in place one policy initiative, system or institution like the two Presidents before him you mentioned the whole world will sing his praise in amazement. Sadly it will not happen. You can not produce something from nothing.

          • persona

The issue is far from institutions, we have way too many and some will argue, they are a conduit to have their own people in place, why replicate that model?
The whole civil service is performing below expectation and the other institutions are either moribund or not functional. WHat has ICPC done, what value youWin?
The point is simple, no government has done ghost worker clean up like this administration. No government has stopped the payment of fuel subsidy like this one, No government has employed the largest number of police officers like this, no government has conceived and implemented the employment of graduates through N-Power like this.
I am not a politician’s surrogate, I don’t support any party, but you cant hide behind a finger and tell us statements that are not correct when indeed we have verifiable facts on ground. The first government wherein we saw rice planted and harvested during one calendar year with Lagos and Kogi producing Lake rice. CBN just released facts that the almighty toothpick we imported for several years now have 2 manufacturers doing same. The truth cant be hid.

      • abodes_124

Are we not seeing the good things he has done because we are all blind or because there is nothing to see?

  • truth_is_Bitter

With Nigeria’s present structure, a Soludo will NEVER win any presidential election not because he is not qualified, incompetent, inexperienced or dumb like Buhari and all other presidents before him (Except Jonathan). He will never win an election because of 2 and only 2 mutually in-exclusive factors:

    1. Ethnicity
    2. Religion

We all know Yorubas voted for Jonathan in 2012 because they knew the Niger Delta would DEFINITELY break away from Nigeria if Jonathan was not elected. So people should not come with any argument that Jonathan was president and from the South. If Musa hadn’t died in office Jonathan would NEVER have won by contesting from scratch. Even at that we saw the crude drama and dance of shame heralded by the uncivilized behaviour of the Northern politicians in trying to stop Jonathan at all costs.

    SOLUTION
    Disintegration! Disintegration!! Disintegration!!!

He forgot too soon what he said pre-election that anybody that will take over the government will find it too hard to put the country economy together due to the massive destruction the PDP administration has done to the country. Now, just because he’s denied ticket and the hope of becoming governor is almost dead, he then think becoming a regional leader will be another good option. And to create awareness, he must join same people he faulted on their campaign of calumny. Please tell the Block-headed human being Soludo that his game is up as far governing Nigeria is concerned.

As for Buhari Nigerians will never forgive him even after his burial for inflicting this king of plague on us.

The six months sole rule by the Tyrant without any ministerial appointment landed Nigeria in this big mess. APC should stop their blame attitude and do the needful. Many Nigerians would recognise the dire economic situations which Soludo describes, but he was intellectually deceitful and even føølish to fabricate a link between these issues and Kanu, culminating in his ‘Igbo-Professional’ call for an “unconditional release” of Kanu who is facing high treason charges, for goodness sake!

    • Dawood

Mr. Akande, dis your grammar no don, na water, water, abeg. Go yabbis school. Mr. Soludo is a moral leper who has no legs to stand on when it comes to the matter of the economy. Wasn’t he part of the Jonathan administration? The most kleptocratic leadership known to man. Mr. Olodo should be hiding with shame, instead of going around making pronouncements. Before the Buhari government came on board, it was Mr. Olodo himself who said that the economy would be very difficult to fix due to the massive damage done to it by the Jonathan administration. Now he’s singing a different tune. What changed? Buhari no give am work. Or maybe he believes he’s best suited to be Biafraudster-in-Chief. Go figure.

You were all hailing him when he was criticising jonathans government. Now he is a moral leper for criticising your Messiahs economic policy or lack of thereon.

    • king

Substantiate Kanu’s case as ‘high treason’. U tribalistic moron…

      • thusspokez

This is a discussion forum, so let’s hear your counter argument(s).

  • Mama Kay

Hypocritical Soludo. In December 2014, the people in the government knew they had devalued the naira and were just waiting for the elections to come out. I was told then that naira to dollar was going to be 400 and pound 600.

Which is why they were converting their loot to dollars. The massive looting and conversion is the major reason the naira has fallen.

The only reason they are crying is because this administration has tried to lock the treasury. Keep on crying, we are supporting this administration because we are fed up with senseless looting.

    • systematic

very good i support you my sister

    • George

Aboki you knew dollar were going to be 600 since 2014 and you never told your cow-headed bingo Buhari when he was making promises of making dollar equal to Naira.

      You are bad APC member.

      • Mama Kay

You are an ignorant person from your reply, so I would not bother to exchange words with you.

        • king

U appear to be the ignorance itself

      • Adesuwa

        Hahaha. Good one.

      • dele20

You sound like a kindergarten student

        • king

    • king

      Story!

    • abodes_124

exactly they have gathered all the money and locked it up in one account {TSA} . it is like the man in the parable who buried his talent in the ground. With ‘clever’ people like you in charge Nigeria has no hope

      • Mama Kay

The lock up of the treasury is probably hurting the thieves whose only occupation was free access to the treasury forgetting about the country.

Very good that the treasury has been locked so that we can finally get some much needed infrastructure.

Get a job because Nigeria will never go back to the mindless looting by the grace of God.

    • Chym

      Brain you don’t have

      • Mama Kay

Probably referring to yourself as evident in your reply.

        • Chym

You know whom I was talking about that’s y you replied

  • George

When useless APC kept saying PDP this PDP that I wonder who are the PDP.

    Animal Tambuwal is a PDP.
    Agbaro Ameachi is a PDP.
Bloods suckers El rufai is a PDP.
    Confused Ribadu is a PDP
    Baloon Dambazal is a PDP
    Killer SARAKI is a PDP
OBJ son’s wife fucker is a PDP
    Joker Dagara is a PDP.
MANY more from the North are PDP except the few assholes from the west

    • persona

But all of them don leave PD for una and we still never see road.
The recovery of loot and plenty diversion inside soak-away and wardrobe alongside fireproof cabinets dey surface everyday.
The diversion was so great that the list you presented seem to not be the problem biko.

      • king

        U made no point

    • Karl Imom

Those thieves were policy makers in PDP. In APC, some of them are still stealing, but they are NOT making policies that gave rise to massive looting of states and federal treasuries.

  • sammyctu ode

Solid I you don’t have any moral and professional rights to criticize this government. It was under your watch that the pdp and Jonathan were looting the treasury and changing their looks to dollars. I can’t see any significant achievement that can be credited to you. Yes you are an economist but only a theoretical economist which you failed to convert to practical economy to get Nigeria out of the woods. May I remind you that according to world bank report our recession actually started in 2012 but you and your corrupt government were deceiving us cos oil was selling at between $120 to $150 per barrel. The so called show of shame you demonstrated last week asking for kanu’s release with your educated illiterates has shown that you are not thinking right. OBJ made a mistake appointing you as CBN governor cos you couldn’t move Nigerian economy forward. This government is doing a lot especially in the agricultural sector, did you ever taught about agriculture when you were CBN governor? You are just a useless economic hooligan.

    • Chym

      Your brain is dead

      • sammyctu ode

People like you are stark illiterates who see everything about Nigeria from the tribal ethnic angle. I bet your level of education is so low and your IQ is too low for you to understand the issues. All your educated illiterates defending a terrorist know that no serious government will release a terrorist like Kanu until it goes through the court process. The irony of it all is that your type belongs to the zoo and it’s our duty as well educated people to teach you people from your zone how to talk and behave like real humans.

It seems common sense is lacking from most comments here, what Soludo stated was a mere known fact which is crystal clear to even the blind except you are not living in this country or you have refused to deactivate a myopic and demented mind.

  • persona

I thought Soludo said he was too busy doing other international assignments during his battle with madam NOI.
Has he suddenly become less busy to be visiting jail cells and now backtracking after he had said that anyone that took-over in 2015 will have hard time fixing the economy?
We liked Soludo when he was busy. #GetBusyAgain

    • Adekunle

It’s election time in Anambra state again. What do you expect?

      • Chym

Sorry to disappoint you niggar he Soludo is not contesting. Truth hurts

    • king

      You made no point

  • oyoko

I have told my guys, pls ignore this intellectual illiterates, who only look at books and not practical terms. the unfortunate situation, is that this intellectual illiterates still teaches our children nonsense. Many reason why our children cannot think of being entrepreneurs, but chase white collar jobs immediately they leave school, because of nonsensical teachings of guys like soludo.

    • Absolutely correct. Theory all the way. If Soludo has facts to show how PMB has worsen the Economy, then let him show it to Nigerians.

      • Kamoru

        $1 equals N500 (from N270) . Loaf of bread is N450.(from N300), Baygon is N1,7000 (from N850), bag of cement N2,800 (from N1,700), Diesel N260/L (from N110) etc etc.

May you manage your household the way Buhari is managing Nigerian economy.

          • Chym

I have a solid rocky foundation that’s y I’m different from you cos I don’t insult or abuse intellectuals especially the ones the knows their onions like Sir Chukwuma Soludo. Any body that accuse Soludo of any bias is mad cos Soludo criticised GEJ govt and Ngozi Okonjo Iweala and APC used it as a campaign issue but now Soludo is doing something to APC govt fools like you are insulting the genius who turned Nigeria banking sector around for good. If I’m criticizing an intellectual I will criticise him/her constructively. Boy my advice for you is reason before you talk.

Soludo spoke nothing but the truth. Buhari met a very bad economy but made it worse. Luckily he has 2 years left. I wish Buhari will focus himself on security and fight against corruption and delegate every economic decision to Osinbajo

    • abodes_124

Buhari is a control freak. everything must go to him and everybody then waits until he comes to a decision. the frustration of those around him is that he continually forgets what it is he is supposed to come to a decision on. That is why the country was dying slowly until he went on vacation. Please let him enjoy a very long vacation and return in 2020 hale and hearty

  • Kamoru

Must these journalists on the payroll of the government respond all the time? Why won’t they ask for the way forward?

While Nigeria’s Inflation Nears 20%, Cameroon’s Has Just Hit 2.5%

  • Cornelius Jelili Ajibola Olanr

Soludo is a person that can be trusted to proffer scientific and practicable solution to some of our economic problems PMB government can trust him

    • Karl Imom

Why did he NOT proffer those solution when he held sway as the Central Bank Governor for 5-years?

      • abodes_124

he must have the economy grew then. Jobs were created. Investments poured in.

  • Saymo

Soludo had a platform and used it the best way he deemed. His criticisms are at the very least unfounded, as many commentators pointed out, he lacked the moral legs to criticize this government. His right to hold a view and air it is a different kettle of fish. This government is sincerely struggling to put this country on the right track, they are not always on target, but their effort is commendable. Soludo shielded those fat cats sitting at the helms of very sick banks when he was the CBN Governor. He was also the only leader I know in this country that stole directly from the purse of common people like me.

    • logmein2nite

Sharrrp. Buhari met $ at N197 and took it to N560. He met petrol at N87 and took it to N145. A bag of rice from N8000 to N25000. There is something called incompetence. Stop looking at the rear window for once to avoid more accidents. It is lack of capacity that turns a government into complainers!

      • Karl Imom

The effects of the exposure of the extent of government corruption in Nigeria are what you have enumerated. Now would you rather continue to work with artificial figures than reality? If soludo were an economist, he would have known that, economy is very sensitive to bad news. Once, the present administration started indicting corrupt politicians and government officials, including those who saved with Soludo at the Central Bank of Nigeria, things were going to get worse, especially inflation. An economist should never be surprised that things will get worse, before they get better because economy always reacts to bad economic/financial news.

        • abodes_124

Wow. what a clever economist. I suspect you are one of this governments top economic adviser from the knowledge and wisdom you demonstrate.

          • Karl Imom

Soludo was a Central Bank Governor for 5-years. As a clever economist, why did he not implement his voodoo economics at that time?

It’s election time in Anambra state. Soludo has come to be speaking big big grammar

    • Acting Citizen of Nigeria

You completely refused to address the very clear point he raised. You and your lots kept reposting and broadcasting his statements during the run-up to the last general elections. And now he’s come out in his characteristic daring truthfulness, you want to link it to Anambra election.

Well…to disappoint you, he’s not interested in becoming Anambra State governor (not now)! In fact, did you deliberately delete from your memory, the newspapers headline earlier in January when your APC submitted his name as a prospective aspirant for the election you just mentioned, but Soludo came out to openly tell them that he is not interested and that he is not even registered as their member? Face the fact and leave the man. He advised you to ask for the change you voted for instead of foolishly blaming the past administration that would never come back.

      • Chym

        Thanks for the reply
