SSS frees Apostle Suleman after questioning

The founder of the Omega Fire Ministries, Johnson Suleman, has been released and has left the office of the State Security Service, SSS, where he was questioned by officials of the service.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with PREMIUM TIMES, Mr. Suleman’s spokesperson, Phrank Shuaibu, confirmed his principal was released before 11 p.m. on Monday.

“The interviews have ended. We have left the facility just now. I will communicate the details later,” he said.

Mr. Suleman was questioned for statements he made asking his church members to defend themselves by killing Fulani herdsmen.

His spokesperson had earlier provided details of the interview.

“We arrived here (SSS office) this evening, at about 7 p.m. and the people to question him were not immediately available.

“The questioning began about 40 minutes ago. But we are sure that in a short while we will leave this place,” he told PREMIUM TIMES at about 10:00 p.m.

The security agency summoned the controversial cleric after a video surfaced showing him calling on his congregation to kill Fulani herdsmen to protect themselves.

“If they are busy killing Christians and nothing is happening, we will kill them and nothing will happen,” he said.

Over 200 people have been killed in clashes between Fulani herdsmen and local farming communities in Southern Kaduna. Similar violence in other states of Nigeria have also caused the death of hundreds of people.

The Southern Kaduna crisis has since taken a religious dimension despite warnings to the contrary by government officials and peace envoys.

Shortly after the video went viral, the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, prevented Mr. Suleman’s arrest in Ekiti when the cleric went for a program there.

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, condemned the planned arrest describing it as a “ploy to turn the preacher into a refugee in his own country.”

“If there is an urgent need to interrogate Apostle Suleman on any issue, it would only have been proper to extend a formal or informal invitation to him from the SSS rather than Gestapo approach used in the attempt to arrest him.

“It should be noted that under Nigerian Laws, he is presumed innocent until a court of law proves otherwise,” the association said.

An invitation was later extended to Mr. Suleman on Sunday to visit the office of the SSS in Abuja on Monday.

Speaking shortly after his arrival in Abuja, the cleric said the SSS acted lawfully by inviting him.

“I presume the right thing was done. They have been in touch with me to come and that is why I am in Abuja, so that I can see them,” he said.

Expect the cl0wn to shut up or be more sensible in his outburst once the limits of his rights have been read to him. And let his mumu followers know that they won’t be given the privilege of an invitation if they commit murder.

    • Donald

You are just an animal. Why are they afraid of detaining him

      • tundemash

DUnce, is everyone that goes for interrogation detained ? Expect him to shut up or be sensible in his business preachings henceforth as the liits to his rights has been read to him. A 419 pastor surround himself with MOPOL but asks you his mumu followers togo kill on his behalf; how about him making his first kill to show your would-be terrorist how it is done ?

        • Okay

Where Did He surround himself with mopol? You will hear more from him

          • tundemash

    • Otile

      Abubakar tundemash,
Mumu ni, what type of unjust social justice are you practicing with your Fulani masters?

You can be sure that the herdsmen killing and maiming people will go free.
The pastor will be queried harassed and may even be murdered.
The seditious imam will go home free smelling like rose..
In your dream of one Nigeria no justice no peace.

      • Sanssouci

Yeah, like we saw ZakZaky go free abi?

    • B. Enas

How would you call self defence “Murder”. Simple ” Defend your self”. If this so called funani guys show up to attack don’t keep mute nor run stand your ground and fight. That is what he meant . I think it has come to that level.

  • Gary

He might have been unPastor-like with his bellicose language in calling in his followers to defend themselves but he did not break any laws or call on the faithful to wage Jihad against Moslems or herdsmen. So far we have not heard of anyone being invited for questioning over what is being taught and preached as a key tenet of the Islamic faith.

  • Otile

Illah Illah Illala Muhammadu Rasulla. The Presidency has touched the bottom of deceit. Imam Buhari ought to be back from his 10 day vacation. Lair Mohammed
and Osibande lied to us, 10 days have come and passed no Imam in sight. These
apes in APC are deceiving themselves no us.

  • Factsay

We have nothing in common with Fulanis

    • Otile

Not so, we share our oil money with them. As a matter of fact they are using the lion share of our oil to feed and develop their land leaving us empty handed.

    • burning spear

tell that to the Yorubs who imposed them Fulanis from Mali on us

    • Waandu

Who wants to have anything in common with a Bantu African like you. The Bantu are the least advanced human beings. The Hamitic Fulani are way above you in human ranking.

      • Factsay

Pls go back to wherever ur usman dan fodio came from with his blood sucking barbarity

  • David Puff

Dr Martin Luther King, Jr, on March, 31, 1965, at the National Cathedral, in Washington, DC, USA. “Cowardice asks the question – is it safe?
Expediency asks the question – is it politic?
Vanity asks the question – is it popular?
But, conscience asks the question – is it right?
And, there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular; but one must take it because it is right.”. Apostle Suleman you are a true leader.

    • absam777

Did Martin Luther King incite people to commit murder? Stop dropping name and writing out of ignorance.

      • David Puff

It would have been smart of you to read clearly and know the difference between ‘stand up for what is right’ and ‘incite to commit murder’.
I would have banter with you if only you know the definition of ‘right to self defence’ and it’s prime position in human affairs worldwide.
But since you have proven to know not more than the food you eat. I leave you to continuing wallow in crass delusion.

  • ayoka ade

fellow citizens welcome to the nigeria where some are more equal than others.
a nigeria where some have the authority to enter into peoples houses and community and murder them while those who vows and warns that they shall fight back when they are are attacked again are invited by powers that be and threatened and cowed to keep quite until they are murdered by fulani herdsmen.what a change nigerians voted for, next time ,may God help our nation to elect men of good conscience who are not religious, clannish and ethnic bigots who rules with the instrument of deciet ,hypocricy ,injustice ,bias and cunning craftiness. may God help nigeria.

  • Abdulkadir

It is time we understand that Nigeria is not a banana republic, and if in the past unterances like this attract no consequence, it should be noted that it will not be so now. Surprisingly, not a single Muslim has been embroiled in these hate speeches and speeches capable of causing societal disorder. Christians have been in the forefront of these calls, obviously because they feel affiliated with corruption, a monster that if not tamed will engulf the whole country. Subhanall Allahu.

    • chukwumusabayo

I’m completely against hatred speech by religious leaders. Nonetheless, has any arrest been made after the killings of hundreds of christians in southern kaduna and benue state by fullani herdsmen? What about destruction of people’s farmland by fulani’s cows in the south? Did the SSS invite El-rufai to give statement about those fullani men he gave money to? Apostle Suleiman hatred speech, as condemnable as it is, remains a reaction to injustice. The action of the likes of El-rufai and fulani herdsmen can only happen without any security intervention except in a banana republic.

    • Oladimeji

I prayed God Save your soul by mercy to come into the knowledge of him in Jesus Name. Jesus loves you and he died for your sin…accept him as your lord and personal saviour.

    • KingD

May God have mercy on you. Even your write up is enough to cause fight for those people that like you who loves fighting because of comments

    • ebong

Just relax your fingers if you don’t know what to type. Here you are, linking Christianity with corruption when the number one corrupt person in the world ( Col.Dasuki) is a Moslem! You think you can practice and spread Islam by killing Christians? Nonsense!

    • Concerned 4 u

I presume killing people of christian extraction without recourse is a norm in the Nigeria of your imagination since its bananas for those affected by these killings to vent their frustrations publicly? have no worries that Nigeria of your dreams will never materialize

    • ukoette ibekwe

Muslims preach hatred every second in their mosques. I guess you don’t attend mosques. It is a cardinal doctrine in Islam to hate.
So the pastor who is first and foremost a Nigerian does not have the right to defend himself or ask his followers to defend themselves if any of the murderers come near their property for the purpose of killing and destroying their property?
Why are the Muslims crying because the few people who have the guts to speak have called for the innocent to defend themselves against mercenaries hired by the sultan of Sokoto and his cohorts to murder non Muslims.
These useless people called emirs are the sponsors of the calamity befalling Nigeria.

    • ayomi

“not a single Muslim has been embroiled in these hate speeches and speeches capable of causing societal disorder.” why bother being embroiled in hate speeches when you can kill and not be persecuted? It is not hate speech when the koran dictates “Quran (2:191-193) – “And kill them wherever you find them, and turn them out from where they have turned you out.

Please tell when or where Christians had turned out Muslims in any part of Nigeria

    • osezuwa

You are an imbecile to think only Christians are corrupt. Muslims have a Ph.d in corruption. Abacha’s loot is still being recovered till date. You Muslims are the problem of the world. I really do not know what you gain from violence. Christian teachings restrains us from taking human life that we can’t create, but let me tell you here and now, that there’s a limit to human endurance. Enough of your stupidity and madness

  • LionHeart

A clear conscience fears no accusation. There is nothing wrong in all he said concerning the evil Fulani herdsmen. IF FULANI HERDSMEN STORM YOUR COMMUNITY WITH THE INTENTION TO HURT OR KILL ANYONE, NIGERIANS DEFEND YOURSELVES SINCE THE GOVERNMENT DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR SAFETY.

  • Excisionist

” . . .asking his church members to defend themselves by killing Fulani herdsmen. ”

SSS is not worried about killings by Fulani Herdsmen but is extremely concerned about threat to the herdsmen. This is Buhari’s Nigeria. What a shame

    • ebong

      What a shame!

  • ebong

It is a capital offense for a Moslem to”defect” to Christianity. For a long time the Islamic council in Nigeria have been planning to liquidate Apostle SuleimanofGod.The recent development is just a catalyst.

    • SaiduYusufAliero

Bakare and Oshimole nko? Yeye de smell

  • Claudine

In a sane society this hate mongering pastor will be prosecuted but alas the folks pursuing about now in government and security forces lack the credibility since they themselves cannot point to or have attempted to prosecute a single herdsman-killer all these while…

    • ebong

My friend,if you want to speak the truth, you speak the truth. Truth does not hold clutches,if its limbs, then it is a lie. Which side are you? Tell us in BLACK and WHITE.

    • Kallah Bature

In a sane society this man shouldn’t have been allowed to go without being charged. How can you use hearsay/dream to justify killing innocent people who are yet to harm you.Imagine saying “kill any Igbo,Yoruba, or Igala you see “for an act committed by one criminal amongst them.Is that fairness?

      • Wetin Naija

How many Yoruba or Igbo have invaded villages killing children, women and men? Fulani Herdsmen have become the greatest menace to a civilized society. In sane society the wicked evil actions of Fulani Herdsmen will not be allowed.

      • gosgos

If and when you ever get threatened by these Fulani people, please ask your people to give every Fulani man they see around you a big hug!!
What are we talking about for crying out loud? This man was reliably informed that there were threats from the Fulani men to kill him and he took some measure to protect himself and people castigate him for that?
What else was he expected to do? Go and apply for police protection or what????
        Oh puleeease!!!

    • chukwumusabayo

I concur but i need to add that: In sane society, an elected governor would not have paid the killers of the same people he sworn oath to protect because of his ethnic and religious affiliation. In sane society, such murderers under the guise of fulani herdsmenn would have been pursued, arrested and prosecuted. In sane society, the government at the federal level would have shown more committment and guts rather than the unmistakable silence. In sane society, a group of religious leaders would not have suggested let alone issued official categorical statement stating that these marauders are from mali and senegal (the cows of same “foreign intruders” are also destroying people’s farms in the south while the security agents turn blind eye). In sane society, the visible, urgent and proactive actions of the security agents to protect all and sundry (including the northern minority in this case), would have made such “hate-mongering” by this pastor unnecessary. Don’t forget INJUSTICE AND UNFAIRNESS IS USUALLY A PRECURSOR TO LAWLESSNESS AND VIOLENCE

      • emmanuel

What is the hate statement by the Pastor? The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria allows her citizens to defend themselves from intruders in perceived danger or intended murder and if such intruders die in the process, the defender is justified by law.
Now if the dangerous intruder is a foolani herdsman, what is wrong in one teaching his people of their rights?

        • ebong

          My brother tell them!

        • chukwumusabayo

We are on the same page bro. That’s why i put the word “hate” in parenthesis.

      • gosgos

It’s even much more painful to imagine that the money is from crude oil drilled right from the back of my father’s house!!

    • ayomi

In a sane society the Fulani herdsmen will not operate without being challenged by the authority. In a sane society, the killers of the murdered lady who was killed for protesting mess being made in front of her store would not have been set free but tried.

I can only pray and hope that no one in your family and relatives suffer the faith of those killed by the fulani herdsmen and or those who killed the lady

    • AlBsure23

You have a very low IQ but read ayomi again: in sane society the Fulani herdsmen will not operate without being challenged by the authority. In a sane society, the killers of the murdered lady who was killed for protesting mess being made in front of her store would not have been set free but tried.

    • Emma Daniel

You are acting in ignorance. Put you neck on the chopping board and let them cut it off.

    • emmanuel

Maga foolani man, you people are only drawing the hand of the clock closer. There is no way Nigeria will escape amagedon between yourr tribesmen and the rest of Nigeria.
We have all been wounded and before long, it may not entirely be a religious thing alone. There is a limit to everything

  • Ola

This is a situation that Pastor Suleman brought upon himself .Between him and Gov. Fayose , they are making it to look more like what it is not.

This Pastor claims he has information from reliable sources that some herdsmen are planning to come and kill him, so he surround himself with Christian soldiers right, then he goes around to alarm other Christians that if they are attacked , they should retaliate.

To me this is like him transferring his own perception of threat to involve others because he happens to be a Pastor. So he is trying to incite others to react to a threat he claims to be facing.

He also claims he has about 40 million followers who may march onward to effect his command. There are enough reasons here for the DSS to invite him so he can beam some light on some of the issues he raised.

This invitation on one hand will help the agency to have the details of the threat to his life and how to deal it.
Secondly drive home the point that as citizens , we have responsibilities to uphold regardless of what position we may find ourselves in society.

  • Olly Olly

do not rejoice, the senseless Fulani tools are still coming for you, pray they don’t compromise your voluntary statement, the useless Fulani Islamic Republic of Nigeria, another Jammeh of The Gambia is in the hospital while his loyalists are crying for resignation of the weakly/figurehead Ag. president, no to Nigeria, Jammeh of Fulani Islamic Republic of Nigeria let my people go!

  • Odus

Now go home and call on committee from all over the world. Close the doors behind you and discuss about the security of our faith. Don’t open the doors until there’s a tangible agreement on how to keep our people save. enough of blood shed. Now is the time to be pro-active. Have a 5 year, 10 year, 15 year and 20 year plan. No kidding- this is a serious business.
